To Nismo or Not to Nismo

Sup guys,
I'm about to pick up my brand new G35 Coupe in about 2 hours.. i didn't sleep very well last night :P. Anyways, I was wondering if I should just stick with NISMO products and if I do add anything on (cb exhause, headers, and intake) will that nullify the warranty?? thanks!

Your issue of voiding your warranty will likely depend on your specific dealer... ...as well as the parts you use. Some dealers are well aware that a set of headers isn't going to result in anything negative. Others will try to get it on the record that your warranty is voided as soon as they see the slightest infraction. Nismo parts will not void the warranty. In addition, if the parts are installed by a Nissan or Infiniti dealer then Nismo covers those parts as well.

When looking at Nismo parts, try to find out if another company is supplying them with the part. The Nismo Y-pipe is said to be supplied by Fujitsubo. I have the Nismo Y-pipe, and it does look the same... ...with the addition of a metal Nismo emblem tack-welded on. Point is, you can get the same parts for less if you aren't paying for the Nismo name.

I've chosen to go with the Nismo parts on a few items, both to avoid potential warranty headaches if i do have a real problem with the car later, as well as to minimize the depreciation that modifications usually have on a new car.

So I'm spending a little more now in hopes that the difference more than pays for itself down the line. There's likely a different perspective and approach with most of us.

I settled on Austin Infiniti. I told them Grubbs' offer, they beat if by $250 and only required $500 deposit to order (Grubbs wanted $1500 for my option-free 6MT).

And Austin is 4 hours away, with Grubbs closer to 6. That also had something to do with my choice.

I started dealing with them over the net, so my sales rep is Shaelea (Shay-lee). Glad I dropped by when I was in town. Hottest (and youngest) car-sales rep I've ever dealt with.

I have heard that Nismo Products will not woild your warranty. Like Mopar parts on the SRT line. But I think this depends on the dealer, check with your local service senter and work with them don't just bring it in when something breaks and be like yeah its modified, but its nismo so you have to fix it because they will give you some attitude back. Working with the dealer in this situation will probably save you some head ache.

totally depends on the dealer, but IMO you shouldnt get the nismo cb exhaust, cause it need a 6in extension, and the tips still come out 2in short. seen it on a g and didnt like the way it looked. if you want an exhaust similar to nismo as far as sound and performance then the the fujitsubo legalis-R, plus you get those massive tips

Holy crap doode, Shealea was my rep too!!! Yeah, she's a cool chick with some business sense. We were negotiating for hours upon hours with her assistant Gladys. It was fun but fookin' hot as hell outside. So she set me up real nice. Yeah, she's pretty cute. That's what they do man.... those car dealership bastards ^^

i agree with the above comments about Fujitsubo, who are ACTUALLY the manufacturer of the NISMO system. the Fuji fits like stock (whereas the 350z NISMO exhaust will not line up right) and sounds beautiful. it's also cheaper i believe. NISMO makes you pay for the name basically.

as far as warranty... i have been given the advice by several people to make friends with the guys at your local service dept. something like exhaust shouldn't create any kind of warranty issues, but some mods down the line might. it helps to develop a good relationship with your Service Manager and the technicians, they may be more willing to help you out later on if a case arises in the future where they might be "on the fence" about it, plus you'll have the peace of mind knowing they'll take extra special care of your baby if they know you and your car

i've happen to have a mod friendly dealership, and the same guy has worked on my car the past 3 times it's been in for service. he has taken care of problems with my aftermarket exhaust parts and has been more than happy to discuss them with me and offer advice. when my Kinetix HF cats broke, he even brought me into the service bay to show me the damage and temporarily fixed them till i could get a new set.

lol @ Fooboy

And I agree with escobar... ...on something like a cat-back exhaust, I definately wouldn't spend the extra on Nismo, especially with it being too short. I would look at the titanium HKS cat-back system or something.

FWIW, the OEM rear section of the exhaust flows pretty good. Improvement will come more by the way of headers, cats and Y-pipe.

I need to snap some pics of my parts. You could see how the Nismo headers look coated with Jet Hot 2000 in flat black. They didn't look very special before the coating, but they look good now! Not that you'll be able to see them anyway once installed.

Nismo S-tune will not void warranty, Nismo-R tune may.

Nismo Y-pipe = Fuji
Nismo CAI = AEM

Anyone else have something to add?

By the way, does Nismo make ANY of their own products?
