Which CAI?
Which CAI?
So let's see... there are the following CAI avaible:
1) Stillen
2) Injen
3) K&N (potentially)
just wanted to get a general idea what people are happy with in terms of performance, ease of installation, and cost/performance ratio...

Re: Which CAI?
eykim,
I Like my Injen CAI I have the first version or Automatic version. I talked to Yuichi at Strictly Z Last weekend And he said Injen has a version 2 out for Manual Tranny cars. It supposedly did well on the Dyno. I know some people look down on Injen because of the Stall problem. But all that has been addressed and fixed now. I reccomend the Injen CAI
My 2 cents, NismoV35

Re: Which CAI?
K & N... The K & N is in final fit test as we speak... It was supposed to be my car, but my schedule would not fit, so we passed it on to someone else.... He posted on FA.com. Anyway, once the final fit test run is done, it should just be a matter of days/weeks now. Once they know the final fit test works out with good results, they go into immediate "finished" production. Meaning the polishes units vs the rough units. So to market we are roughly 3 weeks away +/-, but it IS in the final stage now.

Re: Which CAI?
Also guys, I would wait for the K & N over the Stillen. The air box they use, is really not much better than the stock air box from the factory. If you look at the K & N you will notice the design is a 2 part mandrel bent tube, that extends the K & N filter ball element, down trough the front bumper of the car, & exposes it directly behind the black oval shaped grille which has sort of a "ram jet" effect, & also conforming to it's name "CAI" (Cold Air), the units that sit under the hood all the time, eventhough they get "SOME" air from the crack between the hood lines, they are more like a "Warm air", since a lot of the air just comes from under the hood / engine compartment. The Stillen unit as you can see from photos of it:.......
http://www.advancedimports.com/stcoboxg35.html
.....Is just a box with a ball filter under the hood, & taps into the addtl factory inlet over the radiator. Our factory unit is already pretty good anyway. The K & N is then detachable, for inclement weather, & you can remove the filter ball & the extension arm, then the filter ball will be replaced under the hood similar to how the Stillen is now for the rainy season, so you do not have water gushing up onto/into your filter. This makes the K & N a much more versatile design.
I believe the Injen is also this way (like the K & N desgin), but as I read somewhere else on here, they also have momentun to work against with the stalling problem..
Just my 2 cents....
(I had my Coupe down to K & N back around XMAS for prototyping of their CAI, so I know a LOT about this..."

Re: Which CAI?
Although I have NOT seen this myself, I have first hand info. When I had my car down to K & N back in Dec, I was not present when the prototype was installed, however, the person I passed this last fit test on to & I spoke a few days ago, & I asked him about that, as he was there when they did his car, & he said they did NOT take off the bumper, & that once the top tube is installed, they take off a bottom panel & essentially slide the filter ball with the lower tube already attached BACK up through the opening, then attach the clamps & firm everything up, then replace the lower cover for the underside of the car....
I will confirm this with the guy I know @ K & N, but for now, I am pretty sure that my understanding of this is correct. So that being said, it won't take 5 minutes, but it should not take HOURS either. I would wager a good 30 mins +/-.....
AND
Since no bumper removal is necessary, it should be really easy for anyone to perform the install. Just, obviously, be careful when dealing with the MAF sensor...

Re: Which CAI?
Lemme just clarify something if I plan to get a Supercharger or Turbocharger....in this lifetime...I should NOT waste my money on a CAI, because it will be replaced with different plumbing that comes with the kit? i.e Greddy, Stillen, Procharger Thx
