new stillen
Anyone here with the new and improved stillen cat-back? I want to know if the power is as advertised. I strongly doubt it but want to check first if anyone has it.Also the noise level. BTW II have a 04 6spd. sdn
Stillen installed, great exhaust.
I had the new Stillen installed on my '05 G35x last week. after several days of use here are my observations.
1. I installed a new JWT pop-charger and ztube the day before the exhaust - noticeable performance increase - but LOUD on hard acceleration.
2. Next I had the Stillen installed - but with the JWT stuff in place, the car was TOO loud. I tried to put up with it for two days but gave up. Every touch of the accelerator would wake up the dead, and the droning destroyed the relaxed atmosphere of driving a nice sport sedan like the G35. So, I removed the JWT stuff (anyone want to buy it?) and reinstalled the factory intake with a K&N filter.
3. The car is NOT loud now and there is no droning as with the JWT. I was on cruise control at 80 on Route 295 today and the road noise and bumps thru the suspension was louder than the exhaust. The exhaust is definitely noticeable at 2-3k under hard accleration (as should be expected I guess) but is relatively calm at idle and once you reached your "cruising" speed. Acceleration is defintely, positively increased and feels very close to my '03 WRX 5 spd wagon (with utec, intercooler and turbo back exhaust).
Very happy now, car is quieter than my WRX (with HKS exhaust and optional factory bolt in silencer attached). Very pleased overall. BTW the removal/install took the local shop 1.5 hours and they said the Stillen bolted right up with no problems - they tell me most aftermarket "drop-in" exhausts are a real pain in the a** and are anything but "drop-in".
Hope this helps,
