exhaust advice?
hello everyone, i have been debating what kind of exhaust set up i should go with.i have a 05 black 6 spd. coupe. what would be better performance wise. a injen exhaust with high flow cats. or a y-pipe with highflow cats and regular non true dual exhaust. what would u say would be the best as far as performance. please help
hope this helps.
true dual and cat-back exhausts (borla, greddy evo2, hks, injen, stillen) by virtue of their design, offer the greatest gain of horspower for the g. they replace more of the oem piping w/ larger diameter piping, allowing the engine to push exhaust out quicker. as far as injen is concerned, their SES line had some design issues when it came to consumers throwing high flow or cat-delete pipes into the mix with em. in a number of those cases, the fiberglass packing material in the muffler(s) were literally being blown out. injen is in the process of re-designing currently, and they're not available. as injen is a great manufacturer of aftermarket products in this industry, we expect the results of the re-design to yield even greater hp results than the first series did.

Hey Intense, can you post some positive dyno results (first hand) of dual systems on the G and what the gains have been from idle to redline (not manufacturers claims). It seems you guys have enough sales know-how to post such info, as ALL the dyno's I have been witness to in person on G's & Z's have ONLY shown gains after 3500 rpm or at or near redline, which by "race standards" is great, but for those short burst in and around the street (not the highway) its been proven (such was the long time issue and debate with the Borla system) that the G lost a little of its "kick" low end. Now Dual setups with mods like a charger or turbo or extensive engine work, mate and run beautifully, but on your average G, its been my own experience (not just what I have read, but have seen first hand) that there is a power issue from idle to the mid range of the RPM. If you're all about top end and or plan of going FI someday, then by all means GO dual, but be prepared to give (loose) a litte on the bottom end. The single pipe systems work the best in terms of brute kick (low to mid end power), when it comes to exhaust systems. You can only exhale only so much (on a NA engine), and a properly tuned single pipe system will help "pulse" that exhaust (from bank to bank) better than a dual setup regardless of the pipe diameter and or length. This is why some bone stock G's (running oem exhaust) give guys with crazy exhausts on their G a run for their money from light to light and the guy who just spent $1000 on an exhaust systems is left wondering what the hell went wrong. Now get those two out on the open road and my moneys on the G with the exhaust system, but for everyday use, you do have other options in terms of exhaust systems that will perform better in "everyday situtations".
So with that all said, there's no doub't in mind the dual systems you have mentioned will give you "something" in terms of power, but the BIGGEST question here is - WHERE and WHEN are you getting that power increase? I personally would like to see a small increase from idle to redline, knowing I only gained just 5 ponies (and didnt loose any TQ), than to get a system that robbed power low end (TQ) but gave me 20 ponies at redline, where it's pretty much useless on the street, other than on paper to brag about in forums...
