What's the deal here? Take alook at this link:http://infinitipa.zoovy.com/c=K2BcTm...oduct/14010-AM
How would an "Old Style" lower plennum make more HP/TQ than the new one?

It appears that someone is trying to capitalize on part of Motordyne's new MREV mod. That goes to prove the success of Tony's work.

^^^They have actually had that product on their website since before the M-REV came out, they just never had it in stock. I dont know if that makes a difference or not. But it does seem to be the same idea as Tony's M-REV mod.

I think the add has been changed since Motordyne's MREV has been released. That might be the reason for the sketchy picture. I wonder if the vendor could elaborate on that? I could be wrong. However . . .
the way it works is this....
the newer REV-UP engines make more horsepower in the upper rpm range ONLY (reason for this is that the peak HP numbers are what sounds impressive in the sales literature, which is what sells cars lol). so, they sacrifice some of their low rpm and midrange power to achieve this. (similarly some manufacturers use carefully selected gear ratios in their trannys the same way... if the tranny can hit 60 without having to make a shift to 3rd gear it cuts like 1/2 second off the 0-60 time). a friend of mine always used to say that horsepower is what sells cars but torque is what really makes them move
adding the lower plenum from the 03-04 engine (non rev-up 280hp version) in conjunction with some type of upper plenum mod (such as Motordyne spacer, Crawford or Kinetix plenum) will give a good boost in midrange (read: normal driving) rpms if i remember correctly from reading some of these threads... that is why Tony made this lower plenum part of his package b/c it is very effective. the part you linked from EverythingG35 is just the factory Nissan/Infiniti lower collector... same as you would get if you ordered it from Motordyne with their spacer kit.
i suppose you could do the opposite as well and add the Rev-up plenum to the 03-04 models, but since the computer is not optomized for this setup you would probably lose midrange power and gain alittle up top.... but you'd be better off just doing an upper plenum mod in that case.... (the 05 motors also have an upgraded variable valve timing setup to capitalize on the new airflow design, which the 03-04 do not have.
as for the "sketchy" picture, it is exactly that. those pics (you will see some like that on the Performance nissan website as well) are the diagrams from the Nissan Service manual showing the part
i hope that clears things up a bit. i'm no expert but i am a G35Driver junkie.... i read posts like it's my job

I recall seeing the same thing too.. 05 plenum in 03/04..
However, they seem to have changed the whole thing to.. 05+ NON REVUP lower plenum to 05+ REVUP lower pleunm....
Yet, i am not sure if there is any stealing of ideas here..
However, for the case of Tony's "invention", he not only included the non revup lower plenum, he did doing "tweakings/modifications" to the lower plenum for it to yield maximum results in REVUP motor.. and I believe that Tony is /has already patented his MREV technology...
and i absolutely give my respect to Tony

Seeing as how the '05 engine reported more hp and one of the differences between the engines was the lower collector. Does anyone remember that?

godmans,
Oh, don't get me wrong here. I am not attempting to point fingers on whom is using whom's ideas. It's a small industry and I thought it was just funny and quite exciting that another company may have aknowledged Tony's MREV.
In a backward way . . . Evident by this product offering, Tony is getting his due respect.

MY BAD.... I didn't see SI_G35 Coupe's answer! Thanks for the logical answer to this question.
Forget everyting below this line.

This is the lower plennum from a 04' motor to be put on an 05' (298HP) motor. This will IMPROVE performance?

This is the intake manifold collector from the NON "rev-up" motor. When you install this on a "Rev-up" motor (05+ 6MT) it will boost mid range power substantially. One of the best bang-for-the-buck modifications for the 05+ 6MT engines!
