my avic doesn't like my xbox, but likes ps2, huh??

for those of you with an avic-n1, have you tried connecting any gaming consoles through the AV input on the brain?

1) xbox (tried two different xbox's) - get a static noise mixed in with the audio, and there are two horizontal bands (that somewhat distort/offset the image) that travel up the screen.

2) ps2 - everything looks fine.

huh? any of you guys run into this? or, can one of you guys try plugging in an xbox to confirm my findings?

Re: my avic doesn't like my xbox, but likes ps2, huh??

haha I was just going to post the same observation with the xbox thingie. I actually get static noise through the audio through the AV Electronic tuner. But I think it is more because of the AC inverter than anything else.

When I unplug the power cord from the inverter - everything is perfect.

Anyone know how to stop this static ??? Its in the background of everything playing from the xBox... Can we sheild the units better?

First, I have to say that watching a DVD while driving is just plain stupid, not to mention it's a pretty hefty fine too. I only throw in a DVD when I'm waiting in the huge Costco gas line.

Don't be one of these people ... http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_868248.html

Thats said, if memory serves me correctly.... all you have to do is ground the light green wire that's supposed to go to the parking brake. If that doesn't work, then connect the light green wire to the yellow lead wire. ahhh ... it's one or the other. Back to the xbox ps2 thing people!

here is how
http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...7&page=1&pp=20

Basically you connect the unit to the parking brake "ground"... i am not sure what this exactly entails, but I know that most aftermarket units can be "hacked" this way... by a simple ground wire.

Regarding disabling the safety feature, just ground the parking brake sensor (you can hook it up to the black wire which also goes to ground). You shouldn't be watching dvd's or messing with the nav while driving, but it also shouldn't stop your passenger from doing so.

As for static when the power inverter is connected, this is due to a ground loop. Use something like this

Hmm ... will go to radio shack tomorrow and pick one up. Will let you guys know how it turns out.

supsup - you need to get a DC-AC inverter, something like this http://www.dcacpowerinverter.com/?CMP=KNC-goog13 I picked up a 400w/800w peak with two outlet inverter for around $40 at Costco yesterday. The xbox uses 100watts and ps2 uses 79watts ... blender for margaritas uses 600 watts .... mmm ... too bad, no party in my car ... yet.

Inverters cause a lot of electrical noise when converting from DC to AC. For an X-Box or PS2 your much better off getting a DC-DC converter from radio shack or someplace that will covert the car's 12 volt DC to whatever the X-Box or PS2 needs.

Re: my avic doesn't like my xbox, but likes ps2, h

I tried a Ground Loop isolater without luck yesterday. I had one laying around from a previous install...

Amazingly it amplified the noise 10x. Don't know how to handle this now...

Any other suggestions ?

Borrow someone else's power inverter to see if at least that will reduce the problem.

Re: my avic doesn't like my xbox, but likes ps2, h

maybe you can try grounding the xbox chassis. it helped a bit with my av box. since the exterior is plastic, this might call for some dremel'ing action.

Re: my avic doesn't like my xbox, but likes ps2, h

Well I know that my AV unit is grounded to the chassis...

Has anyone tried grounding the xBox as suggested? I want to be sure of it before I start cutting away... Anyone ??

Re: my avic doesn't like my xbox, but likes ps2, h

how does that work, DC-DC converter. Wouldn't that mean that the xbox would have to be modified to remove the internal AC-DC converter to accept the correct voltage from the DC-DC converter. Hmm... that sounds like a whole lot o work to me.

There was a post somewhere saying that the ps2 uses 12 volts, so one installer removed the the ac-dc converter in the ps2 to accept a direct current from the battery. Anyone know anymore about this, or whether it applies to the xbox?
