to take #8 off...remove the wheel, fender liner...then the bolt is right there...makes it easier...

That's correct. Once you lift that piece out you can reach in and grab it. I didn't remove the bolts that hold number 8 if I remember correctly. They kind of keep it in there w/ tabs that look like a sideways U. You can just slip if off once the bolts are loosened. Just feel around and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Did you notice any changes in sound once you removed it?

I replaced the box w/ a JW pop charger, so I can't really comment on the sound w/ the stocker. I can say that the JW gives me wood every time I drive the car and that's w/ the stock G tube.

Performance wise I can't say that I noticed much of a difference. I did seem to pull harder between 2k and 4k, but off the line I actually felt a slight decrease. Not a decrease enough to be concerned w/ it, I just noticed it and thought that was odd. If I had to do it over again I'd do it in a second. The sound alone is enough. A lot of people ask me if a 350GT ,yes I've got the ricey emblem , is a more powerful version of a G35 b/c it sounds so much better. And that's w/ the stocker tube. I've got to get a Z tube when I finish the rest of my mods. But like I said, I can't really comment on removing the resonator alone.

if the jwt had a better heat shield it might be a nice alternative to the stock box and k&n filter...that flemsy piece of aluminum foil doesnt do much to shield the heat out...

It sounds better than the stocker though and given the minimal, if at all, difference in performance that's good enough for me. It's all about preference I guess. I prefer to physically hear a difference than to perceive a theoretical performance difference. Has anyone done a head to head dyno test on this?

Hmmm, i'm tempted to do it now ^_^

When i removed the power duct (part #5) it sounded AWESOME above 4k RPM. What i'm worried about it removing the air box's resonator will make it sound different, maybe quieter. Hmmm, i suppose i could always try

That's exactly what the sonic change was for me: quieter.

I replaced it for a more "hollow" induction note.

your wording is confusing me (or maybe i'm just stupid and i just woke up, lol).....are you saying by removing the part from the bottom of the air box, it went quiter, or that the induction noise was hollower?

Correct. When I took off the resonator and plugged the hole, the induction sound was quelled slightly.

When I replaced the resonator, the more desireable (to me) 'hollow' sound returned.

what happens if you took it off but DIDN"T plug the hole and just left it gaping there?

You would lose the advantage of having a pressurized, sealed airbox.
