I would think that the ram effect is more noticeable at speed.

You would also be introducing hot air from the engine bay under throttle, though probably not much.

thats why you plug up the whole in the bottom of the airbox...and there have been dynos done where the gains were nominal at best with aftermarket intake setups vs the stock box with a k&n filter...

see, I was thinking about that but the air box isn't pressurized and sealed - the air inlet tube is attached to the left side of it, so thus the box itself can't be pressurized ans sealed?

This thread is nothing but blind theories that have no hard evidence (dyno sheets) to back them up! We need back to back dynos to prove these statements true or false!

btw, anybody have any idea what would happen if you WIDENED part #7? (the air inlet tube). SO instead of those 2 tiny slits, you cut it and opened it up a little bit more. You'd get more air flow in, but I can't figure if it would affect it any way.

if somebody wants to donate their air inlet tube to me to play with to see if I can make it any better, i'd be happy to take it ^_^

The primary question in this thread is how to remove the resonator box. Not will it give you more power, so I think it's okay that this one is just filled w/ opinions. Reset my ECU this weekend too. Man, what a difference. My intake sounded like it woke up from a long hibernation.

I widened number seven, broke it, and bought another.

Did not make any difference. If you put your hand next to it, you can feel the how little air gets sucked through it at idle. I guess it has more of a ram air effect.

can the removal of the catch can cause any problems?

I removed the wheel, removed the shroud, and removed the can, but did not plug the hole since my plug was too small and I do not want to use epoxy

most definitly louder..when I added my z tube...it got louder, when I removed the
power duct...it got louder, and when I removed the catch can it got louder. The car seems to sound louder throughout all RPM's. Tomorrow I will find a plug and than buy a replacement bolt for the one I lost (lost a wheel shroud bolt, I always loose bolts ) I want to see what the effect on gas milege is.

BTW, the car has 4500 miles on it, I have driven through plenty of rain, but the can was completely dry....If water collects in the can, wouldnt the engine bay evaporate it...potential steam going into your filter

I secured a PVC cap on the hole now. I am not entirely shure, but I think it may really be quieter. I will drive around for another week and conclude. Can someone else confirm on their 05 or 06?

You're not the first person to say that it got quieter.

I noticed resonator part #8 when I installed my Ztube and K&N drop in about 3 months ago..I wasnt really inpressed once I installed the ztube and K&N drop in so I went back in a day later and removed part#8...I really didnt really feel a gain in power, but the intake became a tad louder right when u give it full throttle and before redline.

Ok. This is my official one day evaluation review.
I have a 2005 G35x, with Z Tube, and Amsoil Microfiber air filter.
(BTW, I was looking for a person with another 05 to evaluate)

1)PowerDuct ON, Water Can OFF, Hole SECURED (plugged)

Louder than stock, but quiter than Stock+ZTube but sounds very smooth.
Car is very happy, Rev's lively, seems to push harder. Car gradualy gets louder the higher you REV. After a lively drive, the Box seems cool.

2) PowerDuct ON, WaterCan OFF, Hole OPEN

Louder than #1, Car is not as happy, not has responsive, but you begain to hear that huge "hollow", loud, deep, whatever difference in sound after 3000 or 4000. Box is not as cool

3) PowerDuct OFF, WaterCan OFF, Hole OPEN

Seems to be one the loudest. Car certainly does not respond as well as #1, but you could hear the difference in sound throughout nearly all RPMs. Sound is very deep. The box is quite hot after a good drive.

4) PowerDuct OFF, WaterCan ON

Seems to be also one of the Loudest ( I cant tell, this is why I'd like to see someone else give it a try). Track times (from someother post) already prooved that this is slower than with the PowerDuct ON. But I believe that #1 may be quicker.

Well, all in all, if I was at the track, I would stick with #1, but on the street, I would go with #3. My Gas Mileage remained at 19, so that is not a big deal. But than again, I used a 2" PVC cap with a metal grip (just like the one on our upper intake arm) all I have to do is unscrew it and slide it off to open the hole. Not to diffucult, I dont have to remove the entire wheel to get to it, all I have to do is disattach the airbox, wedge my arm in between, and slide the Cap on. I will attempt a dyno one day, if I have time. With such a small modification, I dont know if it is worth it. But I still believe #1 is the quickest combo
