Removing Pre-Muffler

I'm having my Greddy exhaust installed tomorrow. I bought it from another user on the forum for a great price. I was wonderiing if it is wise to have the pre-muffler removed and if it will benefit the car's performance at all.

Re: Removing Pre-Muffler

I'd think the Greddy replaces it. But I don't think, even though the Greddy claims to be a cat-back, that it even replaces the stock y-pipe, which of course bolts up the the cats. In any event I do think the sedan is better off with the premuffler being replaced with a straight through 18" or 22" glassback.

For the curious, here's some pics of what the sedans premuffler looks like on the car then off.

Pics didn't work. Wouldn't the y pipe be before the cats? It was like that on my Camaro z-28,

2 cats just south of the exhaust manifolds going into 2 headpipes, then the Y pipe before the resonator. The G is not a Camaro.

Re: Removing Pre-Muffler

Very insightful there lowrider. Really, the G is not a Camaro? What a revelation, I would have not ever known that. Now I'm enlightened.

Y pipes are separate from a catback exhaust. That is what I was getting at. Cat-back means from the cat back, and this is exactly what the Greddy exhaust is.

By the way , it did replace the resonator anyway with a straight section and it works and sounds great.

This is interesting! Please tell me more about the glasspac
that you replaced this premuffler with. It looks like from
your pics that you had this professionally removed and
replaced? Is this something I can do myself? Who sells
the replacement and how much? I would love for my
Sedan's stock muffler to sound better.
