Common Intake Problems?!

Before I bought my G a month ago I had a Toyota celica GTS, I had installed an AEM CAI and it gave me nothing but problems. The MAF sensor could not bare it. The car idled so low and would stall, CEL would be on constantly, and it was more of a headache then it was worth. I did however love the sound. Since hearing a few sound clips of them on the G I am considering purchasing one, but would like to know if people have these same problems. The HP gain is pretty much worthless, but the sound is amazing. Its not worth the headaches if this commonly happens on the G. I was considering the stillen intake and z tube, but if that is problematic, then would the ztube and K&N filter do the job? Does it give the car a little more growl?

I have done searches looking for intake problems, and could only find a few where the cars where stalling as they were thrown into neutral at high speeds, and one saying that the car idled low around 500. I appologize if there are more threads on this maybe someone can point me in the right direction.

i have a popcharger/ztube combo. i dunno if that qualifies for you as an "intake" but i also had that problem when i first installed them. but after reading up on some forums, i decided to reset my ECU. so i disconnected the battery overnight and the next morning, no problems. My car idles around 1-1.5. I don't know if resetting the ECU and that have anything to do with each other, but i'm just telling you that after that the low idling went away.

Get A G... its worth it

There have been more posts about run-down issues (stalling when simply slowing to a stop) with some of the CAI(s). I seem to recall the Injen intake being ok, but perhaps others can chime in with more options.

Because of these issues, I'm going with an aftermarket G-tube and a drop-in filter. The Stillen cold-air box seems to have reasonable reviews as well.

I wouldn't worry too much about the intake "issues" with the G. There are probably many more successful intake installs than unsuccessful intake stalls posted in the forum. No one really makes a post saying, "Look at my intake! It works beautifully", but everyone will post saying, "Just installed intake. Now car runs bad".

FWIW, I just installed a carbon fiber G tube from UTR and it works just like normal with the addition of the intake growl at higher rpms. I'm looking to get a Stillen intake to complete it, but I don't want to exactly spend $200 for it. I've seen used ones sell for $100.

Did you use the seperate little filter or did you run the PVC line back into the G-tube? If it's the 2nd, was your tube pre-drilled or did you drill it yourself?

I have one that I haven't installed yet, and it's one with the seperate filter and the bunghole isn't drilled. Just trying to decide on which route to go.
