Unhappy Help! Rusted bolts on exhaust and oil filter on really tight

I am trying to install my Borla cat-back, but I couldn't get the nuts off. I didn't try using anything on the nuts, just a socket wrench and muscles. Any suggestions?

I also I tried to change the oil on my car, but the Infiniti dealer changed it last and they really tightened the oil filter down. So any suggestions on getting that off would be appreciated as well. I have a K&N oil filter on there now and it has a 1" hex head on the end of it. Unfortunately I have rounded that off pretty good as well as on the flat parts filter it self. I may take it back to the dealer, have them change my oil and not put the filter on that tight again.

On the plus side, I did get my Stillen intake box in yesterday, so I guess I'm not much of a failure of a mechanic this weekend.

Thanks in advance for your help, it is much appreciated.

For the rusted bolts, get a good penetrating spray and SOAK the thing! Spray and let it soak for a few minutes. Spray some more and let it soak again. The more times you do it, the more it'll soak. After a few times and about an hour, it should come out pretty easy. And be sure to use a good socket and wrench and use the correct size. Not one that fits "close enough".

Oil filter? Get an oil filter wrench. That should help a lot.

Another trick, if you can't get a stuck oil filter off, is to punch a large diameter screwdriver through it, and use that to get it started. It ruins the filter, of course, but you aren't planning on re-using it anyways.

Thanks for the advice. I went out and got a pair of oil filter pliars that have 3 sets of teeth in them. I squeezed the hell out of the filter, but I got it off, and like cealric said it not like I'm reusing it anyway. I also got some anti-rust spray but I'm not going to do the exhaust for a couple of weeks now. Again, thanks for the help.

If you have a torch to you can heat the bolts up and get them red hot and they should comeright off that way. Just becareful not to get and fuel lines or anything that may be in that area.
