Mufflers w/o cat-back
Mufflers w/o cat-back
Anybody done a muffer swap without buying a complete cat back system? On my old mustang I just changed out the muffler for a dynomax and had better sound and more power. Lots of people did that because it worked and was cheap. Haven't really heard of anyone doing that with their G's. . . or are some of you doing that and not just posting about it? Let me know what you have done and how it has worked.
Re: Mufflers w/o cat-back
According to NissanPerformanceMag, changing the muffler may not do anything:
"Local Nissan tuner JWT has tried some exhaust tests on two different 350Z’s. With the exhaust system completely unbolted from the Y-pipe back both cars made little to no power over stock. This makes us wonder how adding an exhaust even from the Y-pipe back will provide dramatic gains in power. "

Yeah the stock muffler has pretty good flow, it is the Y pipe that is the bottleneck in the stock system
Keep in mind that it is not a big bottleneck, 10RWHP (dyno proven) at most from any catback system out there...
