You will be still pulling in hot air. Get a intake with a shield or box.

No, get away from a long tube intake like a JWT or Stillen.

1) A heat shield won't stop heated underhood ambient air which is the killer.

2) I think you will loose power with the short ram "hot" air intake unless it's cold outside

3) I'm sure the whistling will still be there. That's simply the sound of the throttle body being amplified by the high flow filter.

A Stillen has a good heatshield which blocks 90% of the engine heat effectively in my research. JWT has a half heat shield that still allows engine heat to enter the filter.

I have seen people use sleeves to cover their short ram CAI's, material similar to what the firemen use for their fire-retardant clothing. As a matter of fact i first remember seeing that on Team Transport's silver sedan. I forgot his name. I met him at stillen day 2 yrs ago. Looks like an effective way to keep the ambient heat away from the metal tube itself. Not sure if there has been any research done on that though.

IMHO, the metal tube has diddly to do with pulling in hot air. The engine is ingesting air at a much faster rate than a thin aluminum tube can transfer heat to it.

The hot air being ingested in the motor is being pulled in hot, not heating up along the way.

past experiance has shown me that a cold air box and a long tube CAI will have similar gains. SOMETIMES the long tube CAI will add torque down low, in the case of smaller displacement cars (hondas come to mind). From what I've read, this isn't the case with our cars, and they seem to do better with a shorter intake, but one that is isolated from underhood air.

The stillen looks to be good, I believe ARC has something simlar as well. As usual, when I get time, I'll have to dyno a Z tube, and a Z tube with a cold air box/open filter element.
