Quick back window tint question

Ok, I've had my G35 for a while and got a 36% Madico tint back when I got the car. I have a slight line that partially goes across the back window along one of the defrost seams in the middle. You can only see the line when the sun reflects on it just right, but it can be seen. I was wonder what could be done about this.

The tint place said it was the seam and that the G35 coupe was best not done in one piece on the back window. They also said that there was nothing wrong and this was normal. This is a reputable place and they did try and "fix" it but it didn't really seem to make much of a difference.

I was wondering if anyone has had an experiences with this and if there is anything that can be done.

Thanks!

There's nothing much that can be done. The shop should of tinted the rear in one piece as most coupes are done like that.

Nope. That is not normal. Take it back and tell them to use one piece of film. Otherwise, get your money back and take it to another place to have it done. Mine is one piece and it hasnt ever given me any problems.

+1. I got Huper Optik Ceramic film in one piece put on my rear and I have to say that Huper film is one of the harder films to work with because of it's relative thickness against other tints. The tint guy still was able to cut, position, and heatgun the one piece of film on my rear. Except for one tiny bubble that couldn't be fixed, it's flawless. The shop you went to are probably noobs who decided to use two smaller scrap pieces to save $$$ or they lacked the skill to do it in one piece. Go complain and take it somewhere else.

Thanks for the advice, I had a feeling this was the case. I'm gonna see what they can do for me. If not, I'll have to eat the cost, but I want it done right, that's more important to me.

Ok, they said they could try and redo it in 1 piece but that it's really hard and they are worried about the defrost lines getting ruined. I called another place and they pretty much said the exact same thing. Both these place are major custom shops in my area and both come very recommended.

Sounds like not everywhere, even the recommended places, will do the back on the G35 coupe in 1 piece and that the partial line is considered pretty normal.

I mean it's not that bad, you can't see it at all from the outside and only when the sun hits it just in the "right" way can you see the partial line from the inside. It kind of depends on the angle.

I'm pretty nervous about the defrost lines so maybe I should just leave it as is, since it's not that bad?

If they said more then one piece is better, they're full of it. Too bad they already have your money. Im working on taking my tinter to court, he botched up my rear window defogger and lied about it, maybe the threat of such will get your money back?

I can't see how 2 pieces of tint vs. 1 is any better? It's still gonna do the same thing, maybe they just like using 2 smaller pieces to save money instead of cutting one the right size. Mine was done in once piece and I don't have any problems with my defroster at all.

No, I don't think it's better, just a lot easier for them to do with out screwing it up.
I'm too freaked out about wiping out my defrost lines and then the huge hassle that would be to get repaired to try and redo it. Even though the shop said they would redo it in one piece but they said they won't be responsible for the defrost.
They should have done it in one piece to start, oh well, it's not that bad or noticeable and I don't think worth the risk.

I'm currently getting my car new 07 coupe tinted and the guy I get it done from (he's tinted alot of my previous cars and also my friends) said that if he tints the back windshield with 1 piece it's going to go over the textured "dots" (internal antennae that is about 3 inches wide) and it will end up looking fuzzy and white. I'm not doubting him and it does make sense, but what is everyone else doing with tinting the back windshield?? His suggestions was to tint just before the texture "dots" (don't tint over them) or tint just before the texture "dots" without going over the "dots" and then cover it up with exterior black vinyl (external) to match the black border that surrounds the rear windshield. Need advice asap!

If your tinter can't do the matrix, find a different tinter. A good tinter can cover the matrix correctly. Don't settle for vinyl or paint, just find someone who guarantees he can do the matrix areas

Hmmm...you bring up something that I have wondered for some time. My BMW had the matrix edge and I had it tinted with The Formula 1 metallic tint. They tinted over the matrix but every dot had some air around it. I am worried this will be the case with the G. Is this a normal occurrence?

I noticed you're in Redondo Beach. Just curious, where did you get your car tinted?

So the "dots" in the rear windshield ended up not being tinted. He stopped right before it was texturized with the "dots" and at 35%, it doesn't look bad. It blends in, but it still bothers me. If I went any darker, you could probably tell.

How about the border that has these "dots"? Do you guys have the air bubbles around them??
