Gialla Grill gap problems... Any suggestions?
Gialla Grill gap problems... Any suggestions?
I got an authentic Gialla grill because I wanted to avoid the headaches w/ fitment problems on the replicas...
Well, low and behold.... I've got a gap on the top of the grill in the middle. I put a small piece of rubber under the two center push pins and that closed the gap a bit. There's still a significant amount of gap, however.
I think I simply need something behind the grill to push up in the middle. The problem is, I can't think of what to use. I've looked all over my house but can't find anything suitable. I'm going to the hardware store tomorrow but don't really know where to look.
Any suggestions?

"hmm...mine doesn't have that gap and I didn't use the rubber stamps that it came with."
Rubber stamps? You mean the double sided tape strips?
"try weather molding"
Actually, I had removed the molding under the hood because it was black. I have since put it back and it looks much better. Still a gap though...
I'm looking for something that can go behind the grill and prop it up... like a strong piece of aluminum or something along those lines...

yeah I meant the double sided tape strips...sorry I had forgotten what they were
Well, I put the rubber gasket on the edge of the hood back on and it solved 90% of the problem. I still need a 1/2-1cm boost in the middle to make it symmetrical.
I guess being IP, any gap and discrepancies show up much more vividly.

That looks great on IP! The gap is hardley noticeable on there... If you look verrry closely at the black one on just the right side of the center bracket you can see the same gap... It is hard to see because of the color of the car... You are right... Gaps are more noticeable on IP, but that looks REALLY CLEAN on your ride

Thanks for the compliment Triji... I'm pretty happy with it. The key was to get the mesh from www.customautomesh.com so that the mesh in the lower valences and the grill matches... I think that makes a HUGE difference in how the overall front looks. Kudos to those guys for an excellent, and much needed product.
I also attached the Mt. Fuji symbol a bit differently. I found out that 3M double sided tape does not like to stick to the plastic mesh. I attached it with pliable wires and epoxy as below. It was the perfect solution and less likely to have some kid come by and rip it off.
As for the washers, I've already put little pieces of rubber in front of the 2 center mounting points and there's not much more room to spare.

I think the only way to fill the gap completely would be replacing the center bar with your own, and stretch the grill in the middle. Another member had a DIY on replacing the center bar with an aluminum one.
dR6- Grill looks great! The gap is barely noticable. I guess if you're really picky like me, you'll want it looking right. Hope you get a fix for it. BTW, where did you get the Infiniti emblem from? Did you order it from a dealership?
