can you paint
can you paint
I tried to have my side skirts painted on my 03 sedan but the painter said he wouldnt because it would just flake because of them being so rough does anyone have any ideas to have my side skirts painted.
buy or rent a dual action sander (you'll need access to a compressor). sand it with 320 grit, then 600 grit and take it to a decent shop that will prime and paint. if you don't have them install it, they will probably not guarantee the paintwork.

you need to clean the plastic with alcohol before you start.
then use Adhesion Promotor spray as your initial primer... do 2 coats.
then use regular primer (with flex agent if available) and do 6-7 coats
until the texture is gone. Do a quick 1500grit sand and go to base coat,
do 3 coats. let dry 3-4 hrs, then do 2 rich coats of clear. dry 48hrs,
take some 2000 or higher grit compound and rub until it shines.
i did this on my old WRX side skirts and it turned out real nice... no flaking
after 2.5 yrs use. i doubt there are any flaking with the current owners.

Yes, they can and will probably sand the black plastic down a little to give it something to grab to. The adhesion promoter will help it out even more. It is all in the prep work when it comes to painting anything.
