Well, that's a good question... since I've never been under a coupe.
sorry I can't help you more there.
As for my project, I ran into a little snag yesterday, I installed a power converter / modulator ... and it does not work.
At this time I have not had a chance to confirm that the coverter is getting a strong enough signal from the stop and turn signal wires. I bought a $30 draw-tite converter... and I'm thinking it's not sensitive enough. I might have to buy a $60 Hoppy converter. Plus the power wirer routing may be screwing with my Tire pressure sensors, it's showing a low tire when there isn't one.
After my morning cup of coffee, I'm going to go find out.

Nevermind....
Everything works just fine. It wasn't the modulator... it was me reading the Multi-meter incorrectly, I think I must have had it on the wrong setting or something.
As for the tire sensor, it's fine too, I picked up a nail last night from the shop to the house in one of the tires.

Thanks
Thanks
And I ran the power wirer straight from the battery, through the wirer loom groment above the clove-box on the right hand side, into the cabin, then behind and under the carpet and rocker panels to the rear seat, then up and through the rear deck lid, without ever drilling any holes.
The hardest part was getting the power wire through the firewall gromet along side the other wires without poking any holes in the gromat itself. I shoved a piece of 1/8" airline through first, what a pain in the *ss, took 2 of us, then slid the wirer through the tube.
Installation was pretty straight forward after that.... especially with the wirering diagram someone posted a link to above.

I mounted a bumper hitch vertically on the reinforcing beam behind the bumper. I then connect part of a tube style adjustable ball mount to it, and voila, a hitch.
Note: This hitch will not hold much weight. I have only used it to carry a bicycle using my bicycle rack. I would not put much more weight on it.
If anyone else wants to try this, here are the basic instructions. But first, the disclaimer: This information is provided as is. Use it at your own risk.
You may want to have a machine shop cut 1 to 1 1/2 inches off of the front end of the hitch to make it fit better.
1. Buy this bumper hitch. Others may work, but this one works for me.
2. Buy this tube style adjustable ball mount. Remove the actual ball mount - you will not use it.
3. Get the service manual for your car, and find the instructions for removing the Rear Bumper. For the 2004.5 coupe, they are on pages EI-17 - EI-18 (and others).
4. Remove the rear bumper and reinforcing beam.
5. Attach the hitch to the reinforcing beam upside down (see picture below). The last picture below is from underneath the car, with the rear of the car at the bottom of the picture. If you attach it right side up, it will be very hard to reach up past it to attach the adjustable ball mount.
6. Put the car back together.
7. Cut a slit in the bottom of the bumper cover so the adjustable ball mount can fit.

Dave,
This is pure Genius! Nice work my friend. I to had been trying to duplicate the custom welded hitch made on the 350Z form. I saw these parts in the store the other day and arrived with the same idea. Great to see you already came up with this idea. It's much cheaper than the one on 350Z or the ugly hidden hitch option. But most importantly its completley hidden and will allow me to add a bike carrier.
So, I would love to hear how its working out for you. Since the adjustbal ball mount does create a somewhat of a piviot on the pin, do you get much movement out of it?? If I remember from the store the two peices fit pretty tight already.

I don't get much movement at all from my setup. I use these locks, and they keep everything in place.
