there is no difference in painting plactic or metal. in fact, adding a flex additive should raise the price of painting bumpers or other flexible parts. however, the price that you were quoted does seem quite high. i would think no more than $300-$400 for quality work on a trunk refinish.

there is one thing that you could try before you go for a complete refinish. if the trunk was painted basecoat/clearcoat, a knowledgable detail shop or body shop would be able to wetsand and machine buff out the orangepeel completely.

also, you should always tell a shop to install new emblems or badges whenever they have to remove them for bodywork or paint. once removed, they will never look the same. factory emblems and lettering come with adhesive foam that is shaped exactly like the letter or emblem. if they do not replace them with new factory emblems, the shop must hand cut 3m adhesive to match or epoxy the old letters back onto what is usually fresh paint.

anyway, good luck with getting your car back to the way it is supposed to be.

You're right, I threatened to sue but the owner didn't pay up. As they recently filed for bankrupcy (and are closing business, wonder why ) I figured it wouldn't be worth the fight.

Thank you for the quality information, that helps. I was expecting $300-$400, it was $700 that sounded way off. I was going to go and see if a detail shop could wetsand it out, but the whole paint job is plain **** and I want it redone no matter what. Luckily for me my G is black so it isn't noticable unless your up close.

I know that you need to always replace the emblems, when I said "not including emblems" I meant I had intended to leave the emblems shaved for the time being. Re-using emblems is a BIG no-no.

Well, with any luck I will be able to locate a good body shop that will do the work for a reasonable price and I'll have my G looking back to normal.

Small claims court is 100% worth your time.
