Quoted $700.00 to repaint trunk lid! (Pics)

I read that a fellow member here used Nissan of West Covina to get their bumper repainted with OEM paint for something like $250.00, so hoping to share that luck (and get my break pads replaced), I went down to West Covina Nissan today.

They gave me a great deal on the break pad installation, machining the rotors, etc, and had my car done in a few hours. I was impressed.

Upon asking them about paint, they told me that they used a Seidner's collision center right across the street. I went on over there and was greeted with a quote for $700.00 to repaint my trunk lid, not including emblems. Am I the only one who thinks that is absolutely outrageous?

Pics:

So, on to plan B. Anyone want to make recommendations for a good cost effective bodyshop around the 626 area?

Yeah, I expected it to be a little higher because of that, but I mean it has to be 2cuft we are talking about here. $700.00 is outrageous.

Bastards, I can't believe the other bodyshop superglued my emblems on.

That could be money torward an aftermarket front bumper, exhaust, nitrous, something. Blah.

wow, look at that orange peel. How did a shop let the car leave in that condition?

Get this, that was the third attempt at the paint, the first two times it was worse and I didn't accept it. Its a long story, I know its bad.

Thats why its time for it to be re-painted.

My poor, poor G

Edit: I see your talking about picture number 1. The orange peel isn't that bad in person, but its still not good at all.

i see you're in the 626 area (assuming since you went to west co nissan).

i use j&s autobody in glendora...about 10 mins north of west co.

they've repainted my rear bumper, my nismo bumper, two of my grilles, my sideskirts, and my roof. so far so good.

Thanks, I'll stop by there and see what they can do for me. Glendora is actually my stomping grounds, so that works out nice.

As a last ditch effert, I would try some acetone to see if it will dissolve the epoxy if you are going to get it repainted anyways. It MAY dissolve the paint, so only do it if you are sure you are going to repaint, and make sure non runs off onto the bumper

It will surely strip my paint, but I'd do it before sending it in to paint just to see what would happen. The paint is ****, so id want to get it painted either way, regardless if it did get it off or not.

I will post pics whenever I do it so everyone can see the carnage.
