can i paint over my chrome grill?

i mostly read that ppl say to sand the grill down before you paint it, but i also read some ppl saying that you do not need to sand it down and you can paint right over the chrome of the grill. is this true?

For best results do it right.... sand it down, use primer, and then paint...

i would sand it down, it only takes 10 mins with a scuff pad and the point of sanding it is to make sure the paint sticks nicely

but this is up to you, as you physically can paint over it how it is, but the paint prob wont stick as well and once a rock hits it, prob will start pealing back instead of pitting

Here's a Pic of Mine.. i did it a little dif with a chrome outter edge with chrome mt fugi badge =0)

Easiest mod evah. I did not prime it though. Just sanded and painted with flat black. Looks very much alright.

i'm in the process of re-painting mine, now.

i started with a 60 grit and worked my way up to 300

then i started wetsanding with 400 and 600

~3 coats of black primer

i'll probably smooth it out again with 600

~3 coats of paint

~3 coats of clear

note: the better you prep the grill the better it will come out, just sand it nicely so its all dull and no more shiney areas and you should be fine

easy mod which goes a long way

the first time i painted my grille, i only used 80-180 grit sand paper (too lazy to buy more, i just used what i had in my garage) and it came out really rough.

For mine I sanded the original grille down with 400 grit to make sure everything was smooth. I did three coats of primer, then sanded that down with 500 grit. I did about 5 coats of black and then 3 clear.

I also ordered a Gialla Grille from Jose at Ionic Motorsports just in case it didn't turn out that well. I am surprised on how sharp it can make the car look for just a few hours of work.
