Painting Stock Chrome Grille

What is the best way to complete this? I would like to paint it black today. Is flat black the best look or painting it a gloss black the better look? Which paint do you guys recommend? Any type of primer? Also, if theres a DIY could someone link me?

Gloss black is the only way to go imho.

This is from my post a month or so back:

"For mine I sanded the original grille down with 400 grit to make sure everything was smooth. I did three coats of primer, then sanded that down with 500 grit. I did about 5 coats of black and then 3 clear."

You don't have to sand it though. I had lifted part of my finish and needed to sand. You can use scotch brite.

I do a lot of highway driving and unfortunately my painting didn't hold up. I would strongly suggest taking it into a shop and have them get some sturdy paint on it. Rattle can just doesn't hold up on the road.

Gotta remove all the chrome plate if you want it to stick and not chip later.
Or get a can of paint adhensive stuff and coat that on after sanding then paint. I sand blast mine with 320 grid then adhensive paint then flat black then clear. Not a single chip after a year and five trips down SD and back.

I went flat on mine to match my headlights. No paint, whether DIY or from a body shop is going to last very long on the grill, at least if my bumper is any sort of clue

you can get all the things you need for like 10-15 bucks...spend alot of time sanding it down...3 coats primer...3 coats paint...3 coats clear

im not much of a DIYer but its really easy and the result is amazing

Thanks! Caskyline was making the grilles without an emblem a few months back, I got it probably close to a year ago - I finally just got around to having it painted. I'm not sure if he's still making em, last I heard he wasn't.

being from Texas, i tend to "hate" on anything CALI.. but ya'll seriously know what's up as far as G's go, I'll give ya'll that much...

only person in Texas that knows about grilles is paul wall, and that ain't sayin much...

back on topic, it looks like a color match grill with the chrome badge might look like something to try this weekend; just not sure whether to go flat or glossy... anyone by chance have any close-up pics of each type of finish ??
