vertical doors

For my next mod, I am thinking about buying the Lamborghini style door hindges from verticaldoors.com. It is around 1900+shipping, and then installation. Do you think that this would be a good mod? Is this a well known and popular company for the kits, and are they reliable, and sterdy? Any information would be great. Thanks again.

Re: vertical doors

There's quite a few Zs with that mod but I'm pretty sure you'd be the first G.

Re: vertical doors

To me, this is the ultimate ricer mod. What a collosal waste of money. Not only does this look stupid on anything but a Lambo, it makes entry and exit downright hazardous. Look at one of these set ups and see where the bottom rear corner of the door ends up when the door is open; it's a pretty inconvenient spot. And it will not confuse anyone but a ricer into thinking you own a Lambo. It will not impress anyone but another ricer.

Re: vertical doors

if you want to know all about them, talk to Ian or Jerry at carexcess.com. They install them on many different cars and they may have done a G by now. I would think that our doors on the coupe might be a bit heavy and some extra modding would need to be done to make this mod work, but that is just me guessing.

Re: vertical doors

I talked to the carexcess guys when they were at a show here a couple of weeks ago and they had not done a G yet. They had a couple of Zs at the show with them.

Re: vertical doors

I saw a Z with these on it. It sure looked cool but getting in and out (which I did a few times) was a serious pain in the ***. You kind of had to sidle up and slide in, changing the way you get in entirely.

They also don't open just vertically, they open a bit the regular way first, which makes them utilize all normal door hardware and opening features. This is good and bad. It's good since auto-roll down windows work right, and other door-related safety stuff and lighting is relatively unaffected. It's bad because to open the door you now need clearance in a sweeping arc, not just one axis (horizontal for a standard car, or vertical like a Lambo).

Like I said, it looked cool, but I think it would drive me crazy just to limbo in and out like that all the time, not to mention training your passengers how to do it.

Re: vertical doors

I can sort of see doing it for a cheap Civic or Saturn etc.. Think its just plain dumb for a $30 K + luxury sports car. Just my opinion...

Re: vertical doors

I don't think its dumb..i think it would be awesome..i talked to a guy on my350z.com that has them, and he said that he usually opens the door normally(horizontally), and only swings it vertically when he feels the need to show off his car, and for when he enters shows..so im guessing u can still open the door as you do now to get in and out, and only swing it up when you feel the need to, i don't think it is nessicary everytime you get in/out of the car. For 1800, i think it is a sweeet mod. Does anyone know any other companys that make kits for the G? There has to be another option besides DECAH.. Thanks

Kyle

Re: vertical doors

Kyle - Try here but I don't think they have a kit for our G35's yet. They do have one for the Z so it's only a matter of time.

If he wants it, then it's up to him....more power to him. There will always be extremes where most of us won't go, but it will set him apart from the crowd.

I remember back when I was interested in mini trucks, suicide doors were all the rave.
