Yeah, we've used these too and really they are not much better than any other kit out there. We first though they would be when we got our first kit and were inspecting it, but in the end, pretty much the same as all others. But yeah they do have the crash test part going for them.

what would you say is the average pit falls of these kits? the fitment? the ease of install or the reliability? do all of them wobble when open? and how easy do they break?

Pitfalls? ...ease of install or reliability: all the kits that we've had are all generally easy to install if you have a bolt-on kit, it's the alignment and final fitting that takes the most time to do and this always is a real BIG PITA! We've never dealt with a weld-on kit yet so I can't really say anything about this, but I can imagine that getting the alignment down would be even more difficult than a bolt-on kit. Reliability, in our experiences, have been good. We havn't had any part break on any of the kits we've had so far as all the ones we've dealt with are pretty well engineered and manufactured. We've had one shock fail us though but it was bad right from the start so no damage done during the install, but nonetheless, a pain to get a new one.

Keep in mind too that if the vehicle will be subjected to cold environments, lets say in certain parts of Canada and the northern States, that the fluid in the shocks will become cold too and thus the shocks will have a hard time holding the door up. It's just like the struts on a hatch...when you go to open the hatch, it will be hard to open all the way, and then once you get it open, the hatch will not stay up. We had the missfortune of this happen to us on our shop show car when we were bringing it to an indoor show in february. We had just pulled the car inside but it was still cold from being outside for more than a few hours, and when the driver got out of the car to help decide how we were going to position it, he let go of the door in the full open position but the strut did not hold and the door came crashing down and damaged the paint in the door sill, and completely destroyed the alignment of the door too. So be VERY careful if you do vertical doors on a car that is exposed to the cold.

Wobble: Yes, all the doors wobble with all the kits. Some more than others. But this is subjective as even just the slightest wobble will be too much for some, and others would not care if they wobbled a bit. But if the cars parked outside, say at a show, and there is a breeze, or wind, you will notice that the doors will wobble, and this tends to be quite nerve racking as the wobbling could eventually cause the door to swing down by itself if not kept in check, depending on how bad the wobble is.

You said that you want to design better ones? Go study a car with the vertical doors on them in person and play with the doors, and you'll understand all of what I've said. It'll be a real challenge for you, but if you can come up with something, good on you.

hey, thanks for sharing your experience. It's very helpful, as I did not know about the shocks. the idea I've come up with have been in the works for quite sometime now, and seeing as many of the kits if not all uses the L bracket in combination with shocks, my design will be rather fresh, but I've yet to make a prototype just yet, the real challenge is realizing my vision.
