Exclamation help on R rear axle assembly

ok so I was in the process of getting my rotors turn when while i was removing the rotor i noticed that the rotor had a bit of free play...meaning when i would pull the rotor the rotor would give a bit of play, now when i finally removed the rotor I checked to see if the axle had play in yes it did!!! which by the way this was the right side....so i checked to see if the left side would do the same but it didnt no play or give at all so after talking with my pops he said that the barrings might be worn out on the right side... so my question for the g35 gurus would be... 1) would I have to replace the whole rear R axle or 2) is there a possiblity that i could just replace the barrings in the axle assembly closest to where you mount your lug nuts on....
thank you

First off, did you check if the Axle bolt was tight? That bolt tends to get loose on our G's from time to time. It happened to me and i had to replace the whole assembly because i drove with it loose for about 10k. BTW if your rear rotors have the drum brake system inside and the middle of the rotor takes the spindle from the axle you wont be able to resurface them off your car. You will have to have them resurfaced while on the car at the place you are getting the job done at. This is what Pepboys told me when i tried to do mine, after taking it all apart and bringing both rotors to them.
Back to the axle, it will have play, thats what its built to do. The play in the axle is just for installation, so when you try to fit it in it adjust back and forth up down etc. Once installed though, it should have to play at ALL! What happened to me, and this is how i noticed it, when i lifted my car to check my brakes and was removing my wheel it shook. I checked the other side and the wheel was not budging. After removing everything i noticed what i explained above, but my Axle was already busted. Good luck

I got mine resurfaced at Pepboys. I just saw you vid and dude that is the weirdest thing ever. Is your bolt tight finally or not? If it is check you bearing. If the bearing is good then check the boot of the axle. If there is grease everywhere then your boots busted somewhere. If not, and the boot is sealed, you have to replace the axle shaft like i did. How many miles on the vehicle. Bearing dont usually go bad unless its a REAL long time 70K plus, or just too much abuse ( turbo, SC, NOS. ) . Let me know.

SO i checked if there is grease everywhere and nope there isnt and as far as miles on my car i only have 27000. and as far as forced induction that a nope...
so as far as getting your rotors resurfaced...you kept the rotors on the car and have pep boys do it while its still on the car?
umm btw what is the avg cost of a new axle shaft or anything relating to what i might have to replace? but since this is a new problem do you think its possible for the dealer to replace it? the car is dropped on springs and 19inch staggered axis...

Oh i see, well if you are still under warranty they should cover it. It always depends on the dealership you take it to. Some dealers are a holes and some are not its all luck and what you can get away with. They might give you a bit of problem just because they might want to blame the issue on your setup. Just stand your ground and be firm and if that delaer cant help than move on to another one and see what they say.

As far as the rotor resurfacing, yes i did it at Pepboys with the rotor still on the car. They do the procedure while the rotor is on the car, dont ask me how i was not paying attention i waited inside, but they do the procedure.

If you are not covered by the dealer/warranty then you can pick up an axle from CV unlimited. They are based out of NC and thats where i got my rebuilt left rear axle. Replacing theaxle according to the service manual will require 6 new bolts and nuts for the pumpkin side of the axle. They ran me about $15, the axle was $400 + from the dealer, CV unlimited charged e $290 - $45 core charge so $245. I have the PDF of the service manual if you need it, and if you have any questions i can help out. BTW where are you located?

If you were local i would have helped you out personally. Its a tough job doing without a shop but if you have the tools and 2 jack stands + good jack give it a go.

Dont have vid, but i can tell you what you will need as far as parts. To replace the CV axle all you need is the CV axle itself and 6 bolts with nuts ( washers are reuseable ) for the "back side" of your axle. G35 axles as well as 350Z have a shaft side and a flat side, the shaft goes into your rotos/spindle w/e it may be, while the flat 6 bolt side hooks up to the rear differential. Also make sure to pick up some threadlock blue. Use very small amount of it per bolt and also on the CV axle big nut as i did. If you have time just give me a shout on AIM XxRawRavaxX . Good luck
