I hope it is that simple fix. Make sure the rubber stop thing is secured in the position, I can't recall if there's a bolt on the bottom to cinch it into one position, or if it can just get screwed up and down freely. If it is moving freely, get some loc-tite blue on it so that it doesn't move down from vibration again.

Sadly, I couldn't see a way to reinforce it with the small tolerances in that area. You may be able to just thicken the metal by welding a thicker piece of metal to the outside of the curve, but you can't put a piece over the top of the curve, since that's where the fender notches into the hinge.

I just ordered new hinges for my G. Unfortunately, I peeled up both fenders like a can opener when I opened my hood! Really sucks! I was using NRG hood lifters and those suckers are so strong that I'm sure over time, it caused these hinges to bend. Once the hood was open, you had to use so much effort to get the NRG hood lifter to move that it must have bent the hood hinges.

When i change the hinges, I'll take pics of my mangled hinges.....no more hood lifter for me!

I wouldn't expect it to take too long, 2 hours sounds about right to me. I specifically asked my dealership about this again last week, said they had NEVER heard of this problem, yeah right, considering I had complained about it several times....

Talking

It actually took us about 45 minutes, my infiniti mechanic figured we did not have to take off the fender, but loosen the bolts from inside the door, then on top, I think it was 2 size 12s and about 3 size 10s. here are some pics.

Here is the broken hinge, you can see that its bent and you can see the paint cracking.

We then take off the two size 12s, just to loosen up the fender.

Tape off the light so no scratches will occur while pulling back the fender.

Installing new hinge, yes its not painted but I dont really care.

So basically you just loosen the bolts of the fender from inside the door, then about 3 size 10s and 2 size 12s on top of the car, and you should be able to pull back the fender and get enough room to loosen up the bolts for the hinge and then replace. Was a good and quick job.

Don't mean to resurrect a dead thread but are there aftermarket hinges that can be put on that will alleviate the problem?

can someone tell me the correct size of the nut that holds down the hood to the hinges?
I pulled my cf hood and put on OEM hood back on, but ran into some trouble today.
Unlike aftermarket CF hoods out there (seibon TS for me), OEM hoods got two bolts built-in to the hood and is tightned by 4 hex nuts.

If someone can find out really quick with few sockets, i would really appreciate it..

When you do get the hinge thing worked out, my suggestion is, don't do, what you were doing on your hood ever again :-)

I will replace my hinges next week.

But the thing I am scared of on my Pearl White 06' G35 (sedan) is the fact that my hood/fender paint is partly chipped. You can see the silver metal. Is there a way to get this painted ... I'm scared of rust.

And the fact when people see my car, it is pretty noticeable.

only took you guys 2.5 yrs to get pictures in this thread! damn.

This does not seem to be an issue on the 350z. Wonder if the hinges are different?

Does the G35 hood have extra weight on it....for noise dampening or fire suppression?
Are the guys that are experiencing this issue attending car shows/events where you leave your hood propped up outside in the wind? or where the hood is raised while the car is on a dyno or being worked on?

350z hood is aluminum and very light, CF hood provides very little, if any, weight reduction. Can the same be said for g35?

Hey guys, my hood does not open freely even after I replaced my hinges with new ones from Riverside. The hood doesn't sit flush with the fender on the passenger side, it sits a little bit lower. This was the case immediately after I replaced the hinges, and they weren't bent. Anyone else having hood problems after replacing the hinges? I'm wondering if the hood itself was bent in the corner when it snagged the fender...
