Carbon Fiber

As I wake up in the middle of the night i hear pounding on the roof, look outside, and I see my G getting pounded with golf ball size hail... So I check the damage the next morning and find some pretty good dents in the hood. I'm thinking that I will most likely spend the same amount on fixing it that I could probly buy a carbon fiber hood. But my question is, would a carbon fiber hood been able to take the beating? Just wondering how strong they are to see what my options are. So we will see what the estimate comes out too. Anyone had any experiences with a CF hood and hail?

Thanks
Douglas

Yeah unfortuneately most of the stuff on the market isn't made very well. Usually just wet layup single layer CF, some times over fiberglass chop stand mat. Lots of excess resin making them very brittle. I've seen some trunks and hoods that were just one layer of CF! Haha you could even see through the gaps in the wave to the other side!?
Properly made CF parts should take quite a beating. I've made a tiny part 6x4 inches, 5 layers of 2x2 twill 3k strand 5.7oz CF in quasi-isometric layup and vacuum bagged and it was plenty strong. In order to crack it we had to wail on it a few times with a sledge hammer.
The problem here is cost, no one (or very few) is going to want to pay what it would cost to make these parts properly.
