It really depends on which ones you got, you might have to dremel out the factory plastic

I had this same question. I hated how the upper didnt match the lower after getting my Data grill so I bought metal gutter guard from home depot, cut it to size, painted it gloss black. Now I need to know if i have to dremel out the lower grills. Any help anyone? Any other way?

Damm. Guess the bumper is comin off tomorrow. Im sure Ill figure it out when I take the bumper off but whats the best way to attach it? The new mesh I got is metal so I dont trust 3M tape. Any suggestions?

You're gonna regret using metal for those grilles when the paint starts chipping off in a week.

Speaking from experience? Will a few extra coats of clear protect it from this problem?

Clear coat may offer additional protection from chips but it's just a matter of time. Lots of small debris gets kicked up and onto those lower grilles. Even with the clear coat, I don't give it more than a couple of months. That is unless it's a low-mileage weekend car. I used customautomesh but those guys are no longer around. It was nice because it was plastic. So, if it got chipped, it would still show black. Looked like this:

Well thanks for the heads up. I realized this possibility but I hate the vulnerability of flimsy plastic. I guess Ill shop around for more plastic before the final install. If I dont find anything, I might just try my luck with these metal ones for a while. Car doesnt hardly move in the winter so we'll see...
