roof overlays better than painting the roof?

Hey everybody.. I really wanna make my roof black and I understand there are a couple ways of doing so.. I'm not sure but painting the roof is more expensive and is more delicate of a process..

Basically I wanna see if there is a noticeable difference between painting the roof and putting an overlay on.. The overlay only runs like $80 frm bat mobile on the coupe and I'm not sure about how much painting costs..

Any fist hand experience is appreciated.. Also if ppl who have gotten their roofs made black pls post. Up pics and how much u got it done for

Thanks in advance

I've done overlays. my two tone on my previous car was all an overlay I did myself, held up driving across state borders as well as in the winter and burning summer.

here is a pic:

here's mine....
I decided to get it wrapped by a pro instead of the Bat's 2 piece.
It's heavier film & one piece.
No way was I doing a 2 piece with an overlap seam.
I love the way it turned out.

Mine is a lease.... so painting was out of the question.
If it's a car that you own & will be keeping for a while,
painting would be the best option if you have the $.
Film isn't quite as smooth, & doesn't have the depth of paint.

Painting a roof black costs between $300-$350, depending on the shop. Paint will last longer, too. If and when you get swirls, you can fill them in if it's painted. You're screwed if it's an overlay.

I didn't know that.. It actually seems like it's with the extra money for paint. I have a Caribbean blue coupe on the way.. Anyone seen a black roof on that color G?

This may sound ridiculous, but what about painting overlays? lol. I have a few ideas I want to try out, this being one of them. Sorry for a thread jack, but this is probably a whole other thread.

^Accually it wouldn't be that pointless, i mean if you're ever planning on selling the car and demodding then you can still take it off.

But i still say just paint it!!!

selling the car with the roof painted won't really hurt the resale value IMO, and you can have it painted twice for around the same cost as having a piece overlay installed and then painted.
