thanx guys for support. The rear bumper is awesome! I love it cuz its discontinued and no one has it and it looks badass with the exhaust in it at the bottom. I cant wait to finish this damn project myself. I am painting the projector housing of headlights same color as car, very tough to get that damn little thing sanded down! should post updated pix by thursday. As far as the wheels, I need some 20s probably, but am so lost in what to get! sooooo many kinds out there!

 

Did you mold the sideskirts on?

 

Yes I molded sides and rear, and not the front because you never know with pot holes and with parking curbs, but I ended up getting diff front end too.

what's the blue glaze you used for final coat before primer?

 

Lol, people were kind of giving me hell, huh? haha I don't care. There are always tons of negitive feedback in life with anything you do. I just block it out but thanks for the props.


First I used fiberglass resin: and cloth

Then I used the thicker cloth

Then "blue stuff" is bondo (body filler) or shop term is mud.

There are many different brands of each product. This is not the types I used, it was just pictures I found on google Bondo is what you feather edge to blend in with the rest of the bumper. Keep in mind you have to sand at different levels and then wet sand at the end too ( I used 60, 150, 320, wet 400, wet 600) just to prep for primer and then used etching primer and primer filler (that helps with pin holes). Keep in mind the beauty of this is if you mess anything up, you can sand and layer more on, so go out and try it! It will come in time

 

I'm curious to see how this will turn out, props for doing the work yourself.

 

Thanks for all the support guys! I am just confused how to paint the damn thing! My car theme is candy red with eventually chrome or high polished wheels - chrome headlights and door handles. But ppl are painting this thing half black. I might paint the center part black but how far should I take it? all the way down through the bottom opening or not? I am so **** with this car and confused! lol

lol. a DIY? Well it could be done but its a lengthy process and would take many many pictures or even videos. Fiberglass is an amazing thing even though I cuss at it sometimes because it is not easy. But it is one of those things that you have to experiment with to get it down. You make stuff float with wood if you support heavy stuff. The thing about the glass is you lay on the mat and brush the resin on and let it harden, after words you lay more and sand as smooth as a shape needs to form. Then bondo comes in to fill the gaps and is easier to sand down and smoothen out. You ultimately use the bondo for the smoothness on top of the glass. The thing is you keep it up until you get it right because if you mess up and sand to far you just lay some on and if you lay to much on, you just sand it down. In time and with much patience you will get your mold! I recommend google and youtube for looking up how to work with it because people have much better explanations and I could be make sure you have at least a drill bit grinder or a dermal tool and lots of sand paper. Remember glass creates the mold and bondo smoothens it down to perfection.
