Debadging

I'm deciding if it's a good idea to debadge or not. I just bought an 03 and I want to take off the "INFINITI" and "G35" on the back, but I have no idea if the color is faded. Anyone have experience with debadging an older G35? I just don't want to take off one of the letters and see a shadow and then be screwed for the rest of the word.

it will more than likely be faded. have your trunk color sanded and you're good to go.

yeah thats what i was afraid of. idk if the color matters, but its gray. is there any good place to compare to see if the color might not be faded. i need this to be free minus the stuff to get off the rest of the adhesive, so unless i can tell if its faded i wont be able to do it

you can try taking 1 letter off and putting it back on if it is, you'd have to buy 3m adhesive and cut it to size

Don't worry, it will be faded. I just did my 04 coupe.

BUT, go out and buy some turtlewax rubbing compound (or similar) and any wax.

This will get rid of any ghosting and bring the shine back.

I debadged my '93 NX2000 in 1999 and although there was some slight shadowing at first it ended up fading enough over a few months to blend in pretty darn well with the rest of the paint.

DO NOT GET Any turtle wax crap.. Please dont.

If you need to buy something locally. Mothers or Meguiars makes quality products and can be found at any local store that sells auto cleaning supplies.

Help from the board...

Hey guys, I was hoping to get some opinions on this.

The rear of my car is fully badged as of now. I want to debadge the rear of my car completely and then replace the Mt. Fuji oval with the emblem of my alma mater. It happens to also be an oval of similar size made out of aluminum. I really want to show the emblem on the back of my g but am worried about just putting it in the upper left part of the trunk to mirror the "g35" lettering and making the back too cluttered. Any thoughts? It's the PSU lion head in case anyone is wondering.

I could put it lower on the bumper I guess, but has anyone else wanted to ADD an emblem onto their g? I'm thinking I might be in the minority here. I just want to do it with class, if possible!

Mine was pretty well faded when i removed the 'infiniti' emblems as well.
I just clayed the car,and used the meguairs 3-step wax system and it removed it completely.

I debadged my black coupe last spring and used Meguiars compound and wax. It turned out great. Just make sure you use a quality product like Meguiars or Mothers.

I used Meguairs NXT wax when I debadged my OB 05 Coupe, absolute no shadowing after 1 application.
