no hood pins ??

Hey -

So I just installed my Vis Slayer CF hood and it seems to lock down real tight
with the OEM hood lock. I've drivin about 50 mi freeway / local roads with no problem. Checked the lock - tight as a drum. Now I know the conventional wisdom (safe bet) and recommendation is to go with hood pins, which I actually have already purchased for install. Thing is .... The virgin hood is awesomely beautiful, and I'm having a hard time justifying drilling through that top grade CF to place the pins.

Summary - does any one have experience running a "high quality" brand CF hood for DD duty without hood pins ? Any horror stories ? I would just appreciate some feedback before I start drilling through this work of art.

Thanks for any info - PAUL.

You should be fine. Unless you go to the track.

Not speaking from experience.

....but this guy knows how it feels.

Hey Paul. I am Mike from Maryland. My horror story occurred this past Tuesday. I am driving about 45 MPH and a small piece of brick flies out from a landscaping company's truck and smacks into the front center of my Seibon CF hood. The hood flies open then slams and shatters my sunroof and also into my right forehead. I pulled over bleeding and dazed but was thankful I didn't seriously hurt myself or others for that matter. The G looks pretty f#$%ed up but she's in good hands with Glen (Christian's Auto Body). I am definitely installing the hood pins for the next CF hood...A lesson well learned.

I wish I did but wasn't really paying any attention...the truck was about 6-car length in front of me...all I remember was that it was a white truck with white tags but MD and VA both have white tags. It happened so fast, and I blackout for few minutes.

Wow. I would be so pissed if that happened to me. I would go FBI mode and hunt down the truck. I wonder if the driver even noticed a brick fall out and hit a car behind him.
