Has anyone swapped out the OEM HID bulbs with 6000K
Philips HID bulbs?

Any pics?

 

I have 6000K bulbs in my coupe, but they're not made by Phillips. Pictures really don't capture the true look of the light output, but I would highly recommend getting 6000K bulbs.

heres my philips 6000k up next to the stock bulbs. this is after warm up. You can also see the color that reflects off on the headlight itself in this pic.

Did you notice a reduction is light output? I know that the
Philips 6000K bulbs are not color coated, but some people
say that it still puts out less light.

For some reason, the Lexus IS300 comes with reflector
headlights like the G35, except their stock HID's have a
purple hue, much like the Philips 6000K. That's why I'm
looking into replacing the stock G35 HID's with the 6000K's.

 

How much these bulbs cost? How long it takes for the swap? Is it just the bulbs that you guys are changing?

 

It should be a direct swap.

Philips 6000K are HID bulbs just like the ones that came stock with the car. It would just be like replacing a burnt out headlight.

I don't know how long it takes, or how much they go for these days, but when I last checked, they were around $200-250 for a pair. Maybe some of these other guys who've already done it can provide more information for us.

 

I swapped my HID's & fogs at the same time...took me about an hour. Jacking up the car & taking off the wheels gives you more room to work with, which makes the swap alot easier. I got a set of 8000k's from www.plasmagarage.com for $189. BTW...make sure you get the D2R's.

Light output is diminished a bit, but still much better than a haolgen setup. I love the color & it looks awesome. I bought my bulbs off of eBay for like $130 shipped for the pair. The vendor was http://www.globalpremier.com/

No offense, but I don't dig the 8000K or 10,000K color temps at all. They look way too blue to me, I'm more after the white color with a slight purple tint.

In my opinion, making your HID's look that blue is a step back, because not only does it attract more attention from the cops; drastically decrease light output (blue is a terrible spectrum for the human eye); it also looks like a pair of cheap "SuperWhite" halogen's from Pepboy's.

 

That's cool I guess to each his own, Mine don't look like ricey, Cheap Fake Blue as the pic depicts, just wanted to show close up. They have a nice True Blue Hue from a distance.

BTW, If your looking for "Purple" you def are looking at 10k you will never achieve the affect that Projection offers.

Actually, the Philips 6000K bulbs achieve the affect that Projection offers. They are white with a tint of purple. I've seen them on my friend's retrofitted RSX.

And if you look at www.autolamps-online.com, a long regarded "trustworthy" dealer in Philips bulbs, they have this as the description for 6000K:
"The 6000K lamp has been developed to offer that unique higher colour temperature output associated with gas discharge. Often this colour is the result of the optical system refraction but this lamp offers you the chance to replicate that in any car."

As a side note, it's interesting that they now sell a Philip 5000K HID bulb. The description says it's meant to go into a car as a replacement for a burnt out HID, so it matches with the good HID bulb. As factory 4100K HID bulbs burn over time, they get bluer.

 

That web site i've seen before, however I wasn't sure if they offered D2R. That is the reqiured replacement bulb?

It's D2R for reflectors, which is what our cars have.
D2S for projectors.

I like the Autolamps-online site because they also post up the technical specifications for the bulbs. If you look at the specs for the Philips 4200K, you'll notice that it puts out 3400 lumens of light. Then if you look at the Philips 6000K, you'll see that the light output is much less, at 2400 lumens.

A standard halogen 9006 bulb puts out 1000 lumens of light. That means standard 4200K HID is about 3x as bright. The 6000K HID is 2x as bright. The higher color temperature the bulb, the less light output on the ground.

6000K is the tradeoff for fancier HID color, but less HID light. Anything beyond that, you're just defeating the whole purpose of having HID.

 

white/purple will be the philips 6000k ultinon bulbs. there are other cheaper 6000ks, but I don't know what the quality is on them. NOthing is better than philips ultinon
