How to spray paint on a stencil onto door panel

Hey guys, so I had an idea for my next project, I was thinking of putting a japanese phrase in kanji on my passenger door in white on my OB coupe, and i figured you could probably just make a stencil, cover the rest of the side of the car so it doesn't get paint on it with trash bags or something, then just spray paint over it.

are there any DIYs for this? I've done spray painting stencils before and had problems with it leaking between the cracks etc. and also i'm wondering if i could just spray it onto the glossy finish that's already present on the car. anyone have any tips?

Thanks

DO NOT... spray paint your car like that.. not only would it look bad, but that's just WRONG.... from classy to trashy in an instant. Vinyls if you must though and customized vinyls are an option. Just look around.
