more on topic.

can you take pictures of the process next time you wrap something.

This gives a better look than that 3M dry carbon stuff.

The next project I'm just starting is for an imported Japanese-spec RHD RX-7 that looks like this now already:

Basically have his complete interior, trunk and engine pieces here now and starting them today. He runs a techie online blog (I believe it's RX-7 related; I'll find out) and he's asked to photo-document the process and write an article for his site. I have done this about 2 years ago, but things have changed so much since then, that it would almost be mis-direction now.... LOL

Here is a series of pictures of a part progressing from stock to wrapped.... This is 2004 BMW 3 series set:

My buddy tried to wrap a set after watching me a few time and finally gave up and gave the set to do....

They had to be stripped of his work first:

After all the resin etc is removed, the part looked like this:

It was completely sanded and then primed. It then began to resemble a part I could use:

After the base coat of resin and the cloth laid it looked like this:

After about 4 more coats of resin, trimming of the excess fabric, sanding and levelling the resin and clear coat the part looked like this (parts are further sanded and buffed after clear coat to remove any blemishes in clear coat and give OE shine and finish):

and finally looked like this installed:

So, that's basically the process..... a more detailed version to come soon.......

I love the bay area. Used to have an office in Larkspur (I believe) just after the big quake and used to love watching the fog roll in every evening....I couldn't believe seeing first hand the collapsed freeways. Even having seen them on TV, it was astonshing to see the damage in person.....

It wasn't so much as to get rid of it, but to wrap it like this:

You can see it in the foreground of this picture....

Me neither and since it wasn't on my list to wrap, really didn't concern myself with it....I'll ask him when I see him in a couple of days... He's printing my new logos (window stickers and small ones for the parts..)... and they should be ready for pick-up Monday.....

Thanks guys... I didn't want to go "over the top" with the wrapping... A good balance betweeen CF and stock is important or it becomes overwhelming....

I won't knock anyone that has/likes DiNoc, but I personnally really don't care for it.... It was trying and hating the DiNoc that ultimately initially had me try my hand at real carbon fiber wrapping.

The rest as they say is history. I've now wrapped close to 2.500 parts in the last 2.5 years since wrapping my set.....

Real Carbon Fiber can't be replicated using a vinyl pattern...
