Possible to adjust trunk latch on g35 coupe?

Been searching around for days, found a couple of posts that mentioned that the trunk latch could be adjusted?

I loosened the bolts, but it would only wiggle slightly, but not to the point where it would make a noticeable difference.

I am trying to lower the latch so the strafespeed trunk would fit better, currently, it seems like it's 1/2 and inch too high (1/2" gap between bumper and trunk, 1/2" higher at the edges beside the taillights, 1/2" gap between trunk and tails).

I had the same problem with my Strafe trunk. I had to take the nuts off the bolts and then bend the thin metal underneath the bolts away from the panel. This will allow for the bolts to move down and lower the latch.

(sorry for large picture. I've tried to re-size it, but it won't work for some reason)

I dremeled the "lip" around the bottom bolt so i could slide the latch up more. Also get bolts with out the flared washer and hole to use a screw driver so you can get it as close as you need without the socket getting in the way.

Going to give it a try right now, never noticed that bendable metal.

I'll try dremelling after, I've never dremeled anything before.

That helped a bit, but going down too far would make it harder to latch - requiring more strength.
Moved it in between the before-lowest and the after-lowest (after moving the latch), and it was perfect. Added some lube and it closed even easier.

Thanks guys :P

Filed the hole down a little further and now it looks even better!

Went from being able to see the inside of the edge of the trunk, to not being able to see it at all!

~1.5" difference on left side, 0.3" difference on the other side.

The trunk shocks didn't really do much with the fitment, but having two made it too hard to close.

Good job. I only have my drivers side shock on. Enjoy the look!

i'm trying to do the exact same thing. i can move the "catch" down, but then it won't latch.

if i take the weatherstrip off and the latch mechanism off the trunk, it sits PERFECT. if i put the seal on, it's still a little high. but as soon as i move the latch down with all the stuff on, and it won't catch.

anyone have pics of their trunk fitment after? and their latch adjustments/modifications?

thanks!

Well for mine to work the trunk doesn't sit 100% flush. If someone really pays attention they could see it, but it's really nothing noticeable. Basically, I don't think it's bad enough for me to put any extra work into it. But that's just me. It may bother you more.
