Jdm vs. Metra double din kit?

JDM is obviously way more expensive then the Metra. I have a 2004 6MT and has black interior. I have the Pioneer 4400BH siting here with all the parts that Warth recommended waiting for me to pick which double din kit to buy. JDM or Metra. Do it BIG or CHEEZE BALL IT?!? You tell me? Pics would be nice to compare? Are the buttons on the Metra really that cheezy?

really not a fan of the metra. It looks super bad, even in pictures its obvious its low quality. Id definitely stick with the jdm kit if you are going that route.

I will give you the corporate response, many can chime in,
you have the 2004, so I think metra color might be off a little, and peels easy in some cases
the buttons, are the difference maker, they come in Grey only, and they are rubber, in most cases heavy use will tear the rubber,
I have the All black kit in stock if you are interested after you hear the pro and con's PM me

I have a 04 coupe with the black interior and i went with the metra kit because I got a great deal on it from crutch field when I ordered my dd.the buttons are cheezy as hell but you'll get use to it.the color matched almost 100% as oppose to what everyone else was saying..if I could do all over again I probably would of brought the Jdm kit but I'm preaty happy with the metra kit.
I paid $99 for my metra kit but if I had to pay $200 I woulda of deffintly added another $100 and got the Jdm kit.
Here's a picture after I finished the install(metra forgot to add the ring in the box but they sent me one after a week)

Thanks guys for all the nice feedback. I appreciate that. Westbank your set up looks decent. I got the pioneer 4400, so I really excited to put it in. Yah, at this point I think imma do it the right way and go JDM. Does the JDM fit flush? Phil my kit is the silver one. Do you have that and its JDM right? Does anyone know where I should put the USB and ipod connecter?

Had metra, build quality is sub par, plastic is soft and cheap, JDM is the way to go.

As far as the cables and where to put them, I have the same head unit and this is what I did: the USB I routed to the right behind the passengers dash and into my bottom glovebox, I have a 64gb flashdrive hooked up and i dont often change the songs on it. I can also lock that glovebox too.
The iphone cable I ran under the middle gearshift column. I have a 5 A/T, and there is a little plastic piece about 5in by 2.5 inch that sits at back of the column storage under the armrest. I popped that off, went to lowes and had them cut a piece of lexan to side and then dremeled in the notches so the plastic can latch to the factory cutout. I took krylon nickle shimmer which matches the stock console paint pretty well and painted the inside of the lexan that is not exposed (this way you scratches don't show up on the unpainted lexan surface and your paint still looks good. I then used the dremel and notched a notch in the front of the plastic piece, so that when you pull the iphone cable up and over the plastic piece you can close the armrest with minimal resistance. my iphone then hooks to it and just sits in the console. This way i can put the car back to stock if necessary but still have good function.

I will try to get pics later, but this is the piece courtesy of G35iPod.com I found: http://g35ipod.kenloh.com/images/install/26.jpg

That is the piece of plastic I am talking about. I made a lexan piece that fits that cutout, and then dremeled a notch in the front (the part in the pic that is tilted up).

As for the actual kit, PM vendors on the site like Grubbs^. You can find some floating around on eBay, but I would deal with a reputable vendor on this site. Your local stealership will probably charge you an arm and a leg to order it in.

I have a metra and the part below the storage compartment is bowing outward. It has gaps between the ac vents and the color is off. I am going to be replacing it with a JDM DD.

My metra silver color match is dead on!!. fitment is pefect. only thing i dont like is the buttons are so bulky but over all im happy saving 150-200 vs a jdm. jdm also give your screens a gap
