I went to replace my headlights bulbs the other day and found out that the previous owner installed a Zentec 35W HID kit. I don't know a ton about HID's but I've been doing some research and it seems that unless you're trying to bump up the wattage, there's no reason to install an HID kit on the '06 projectors, since they're already HIDs. Am I missing something here? Is there any possible benefit to installing this kit?

I bought a set of D2S bulbs before I found this out and am now contemplating removing the Zentec kit so I can use them, but I wanted to check to see if there was any possible reason to have that kit on there beforehand.

I have my headlight sitting on the floor in the garage right now so any help would be greatly appreciated.

when you say 06 projectors are HID, what does HID means to you? i need this answer before i explain everything..

okay, first excuse my english problem. ok so basically HID is the kit itself, like the ballast and the D2S bulbs. when you say 06 headlight already HID, you probably means the projector, not HID. soooo, the reason why you wanted HID rather than regular bulbs is to get better lightning output so you can clearly see the road ahead of you. there is a 35W HID kit in your projector because it is suppose to use HID instead of regular bulbs. try to google some more so you know what HID exactly is.

maybe his ballast burnt out...

or is the kit on your fog light/high beam socket? if so, he wanted HID everywhere..

Well I can tell you that it's not on the fog light, but I'm not sure about the high beam. If I took some pictures, would you be able to help me understand how it's currently setup?

well.. i see that you have a coupe so I am not sure if the projectors are bi-xenons. if they are, i guess when you turn on your high beams, it's from the projectors..

On the sedans, the fog light and high beams are the same bulb (dual filament)..

there are like 10000 experts on lights on this site (i am not one of them).. you should definitely take a picture...

just curious, was you original bulb burnt out? is that why you were trying to replace your bulb?

the 06 projectors come stock with the dual filament DS2 bulbs and ballasts. If there was a retrofit done to a previous year then a ballast would be required, but you normally reuse the ballasts unless you are doing something more crazy. It seems like the original owner went the "crazy" route. People add an additional HID kit for the fog lights in the bottom.

If you really wanted to you could get the OEM ballasts, but I'm not sure if all the wiring is still there.

Yeah, highs and lows are the same bulb. Fogs are separate.

I was actually swapping them out because it was impossible to see with the bulbs that were in there. When I took them out they were labeled as "blue". Not sure if they were 8000K or higher.

I did end up getting everything worked out though. Just rewired everything back to stock. Worked like a charm. Still not sure why he had the kit installed...

This was exactly what had me puzzled. The kit wasn't hooked up to the fogs, only the high/low beams, which seems pointless. But like I said above, I did end up getting it worked out. Just rewired back to stock.

I have HIDs installed on my 07 (same as 06) but for my fogs so that I can have them on when I'm driving to SD from LA late at night for much better visibility! One reason why you would add HIDs to your 06/07 projectors

I actually thought above rewiring the kit to the fogs since its just sitting there unused right now. Do you know if there are special kits for the fogs, or can I used the same kit that was installed on the projectors?

Not sure if you can use those for fogs but when I got my fog kit, the whole kit was the same price as just changing just the light for lows.

Can't hurt to try I guess. Worse comes to worst I just short something out and light the whole car on fire.

haha... I took the risk too. I bought the kit and was like Ill give it a try. If something goes wrong, Ill pay for it to get it fixed but at least I'm gonna try. took me 30 min to install everything! it's been over a year now and no problem!

Yeah the worst part was getting to the lights. Half of the tabs on the bottom of my bumper are broken so that make the re-installation slightly interesting. But the actual rewiring was pretty basic.
