Shaved Door Handles Question...Magnet Pop-Out
Shaved Door Handles Question...Magnet Pop-Out
I have seen the cars that have this in auto shows, and a distand friend has it on his cobra mustang.
I havent really heard anyone talk about them on here and wanted to ask if the kits are expensive, and especially the labor that has to be put into installation.
I did a search on this and came up empty...
thanks.

Yeah I got shaved doors. It was more to keep people from wrecking my door trying to break in, than for looks. Couldn't give u exact costs cause I got the doors shaved and had some dents fixed at the same time. I would say just for the doors and paint, ~1000.
I also had the poppers put in somewhere else. They open with a Compustar 2 way paging alarm with remote start, so popper costs were added into the install price for the alarm. My alarm and poppers were about ~700. I think u could probably just get the poppers installed for like 300-400, with a extra remote to lug around.
Before u do this, know your paint will never look like new, unless u get a $$$$ paint job. It looks alright but the color is a little off. Maybe cause my car is Desert Platinum, might be harder to blend right. Check freshalloy, my post should be there with a pic i think.

Oh forgot to mention, the guys that put in the poppers said it's a bitch in our car. The lock mechanism is sealed in a box and the door doesn't have much space to work in.
At first they didn't put any pushers to pop the door out but i had to tell them to put them in. The poppers themselves can't open the door enough, u need the spring loaded pushers. It's working pretty good now, cept the doors do freeze sometimes in the winter.

shaved door handles are a bitch, they look good, but what a bitch....ive had shaved handles on 2 of my past show trucks. first you have to find a reputable place to even shave the handles (there are soo many problems that come into play with this....first if they arent GREAT and i mean GREAT welders...they WILL warp the doors which will cause the door to have more waves in it then the pacific ocean...so IF you find a great welder, next you gotta pray that you can find an equally as good body worker and painter to make sure that the door is strait and that it wont shrink or distort in the future...and paint...better hope they are real good at blending and color matching otherwise your car will be multi colored.) next problem to occure is if your battery dies...no battery = no getting into car...i had to break my window to get into my truck a few years ago because of this problem...unless you hide some sort of access cable to pop your hood (then you run into the chance of having a thief pop your hood and short out your electrical system which in case your pop both of your doors open) your screwed....no lets say you never have battery problems....lets hope your solenoids dont ever fail because then that door is utterly useless until replaced...and let me tell you....if dont on a daily driven vehicle...you better be careful because all that opening and shutting of the door really takes its toll on the solenoids... im not trying to scare anybody, im just telling you reality and make sure that you know what might to expect.... now if your still interested here is the best kit going right now

anyways.....i thought i would throw out a pic of my truck with shaved handles...just for fun
i also forgot to mention that our doors are extremely heavy, so that becomes an issue as the solenoids wear out

I guess I'll trow in my $0.02 in also. I had a Kit car up until a few months ago. It had shaved handles, solenoid with a spring load, tuccked buttons for opening doors when car was unlocked................ Well... Battery died one day.....if my coat hangering skills weren't good it would have cost me a new window ontop of a new battery. Also solenoids did not always engage properly. And one of my favorites living in San Francisco with all the hills ...when parking at angles...having the door fly at the unsespecting passenger when they pressed the door button or activated the solenoid and it would nearly knock em down. Definately cool mod but can be a HUGE pain in the a$!
I've had the shaved on my last truck, and I had heard the horror stories about dead batteried, busted windows, and thievs finding the emergency cable. So I did a trick Ive see on some race cars, I ran a short lenght of cable from both terms, to coverd terminals on the inner fender lip behind the bumper, so if the bat died i could hook cables or a port-a-power onto to get the door open. Just thought Id share that.
