Door weather stripping necessary?

So on my passenger door, I believe it is called the weather stripping or the rain gaurd. Anywho its cracked. every time i fix it it comes apart again. Can I just remove them? Do you really need them? P.s. I am NOT TALKING ABOUT THE DOOR GAURDS.

Nissan put weather stripping around your door to keep the moisture and dirt out, if you can't fix it a better is to replace it! For the best price check with one of our sponsor dealerships....Gary

You don't really need it if you don't mind loud wind noises and crud getting into your car.
