New to debadging

Hey guys, I just bought a 2007 G35 Coupe and want to debadge the back and keep the Mt.Fuji logo. I have a heat gun, floss, 3M adhesive remover. Anything else? Any tips? I don't want any ghost symbols!

Don't go crazy trying to remove the glue thats left behind from the emblems. I ended up scratching the clear coat a bit. But after a few passes of compound it looked a lot better. take note that the paint behind the emblems is going to be darker in most cases.

I just pulled the emblems off with my fingers and took the glue off with Goo Gone aresol spray and a microfiber cloth.

Welcome to Driver Nesbitch! You have all you need, I use fishing line rather than floss since it's stronger and cuts thru the glue quicker. 3M makes good products, that should remove the glue left behind just don't rub hard but saturate the area. You may have ghosts, the way to get rid of them is with a high speed buffer and cutting solution. 3M scratch remover might work with the buffer and not damage the clear coat. Next time you have a question use our Search, topics like debadging which has been discussed a gazillion times. Enjoy the ride Nes....whatever!

If the car has been sitting in the sun, the paint will have faded and left the paint under the emblems unchanged. No amount of buffing, compound, polish, or wax is going to bring it back. You can't change the pigment of a base coat underneath the clear coat paint, though you can make the outer clear coat paint look really great and thus get the paint surrounding the emblems look "new again" like the paint under the emblems. Some colors fade faster than others.

It's fine, having a tiny bit of ghost emblem still looks better than the emblems themselves.

Does anyone have pictures of the ghost emblems once removed. I have a 2004 that has not been garage kept its whole life. I have never de-baged a 10 year old car but I would like to if I could see the outcome first.

Try waxing and using quick wax both to help remove ghosting when you debadge.

I have a silver 03 g35, and when I debadged my trunk just a few months ago the ghost emblems were pretty easily visible. I tried a couple different compounds with a high speed buffer but I could still see the ghosting. So I decided to try some light color sanding (typically used to removed texture and imperfections on new paint jobs) and followed it with 3m perfect-it rubbing compound with a high speed buffer and it completely got rid of the ghost emblems.
