Shift **** trouble -_-

I know fellas, it's a simple task. I've done it before, but I currently have a g35 sedan and I'm having a hell of a time trying to take off the shift ****.
I popped open the plastic trim, moved it aside. I then took a c-clamp and tightened that onto the shifter itself, then took a vise grip around the base of the shift **** and turned it counter clockwise. The c clamp is slipping(I tried putting tape so I wouldn't damage the shifter) but still seems to slip. The shift **** is really on there tight. Idk what else to do at this point. Any ideas? Thanks in advance..
