What is molding?
i have heard some members talk about buying a replica kit that has poor fitment and having the parts "molded". What does this mean? Is it pricey? Do all body shops do this?
It is a lot of work. I just painted my car and had to do this one the fake greddy. You have to spread glaze over the WHOLE thing. Then you have to sand it then do it all over again. You then prime it, then look for pin holes. You then wetsand the whole bumper. Its a LOT of work. Took me about a day to do the front bumper and Im no stranger to bodywork! If I would have known it was going to be like it was I would have bought the real deal! Never again! Side not I might be selling mine. It is inforced with extra fiberglass on the inside and has already been glazed.
Shops charge 65.00 a hour. About four hours for the glaze and primer. Then paint. I would charge about 500.00 for a front bumper.

if you are talking about molding body kits to your car, it means that you actually bond the piece being "molded" to the car. for example if you molded the poor fitting front lip to you front bumper then the bumper and lip would now be one piece and would not be seperated. there is no longer a "seam" where the 2 pieces were put together as it is smoothed together and painted over.

the front bumper and fender have been molded together on this car making them one piece...
NOTE, Molding body parts is the easy way out for a bodyshop. it is much easier for them to make it all one piece than to make the part fit like oem. any good body shop would not do this unless you request it (i dont know why you would though)

just tell the bodyshop that the pieces need to be fitted to the car. if they look at you with a blank face, take it somewhere else. there are plenty of shops here in so cal that are famaliar with how to do it. usually they charge anywhere between 100 and 600 to fit/install a complete kit depending on how much work is involved.
