Reverse Tilt Down Outside Mirrors
Does anyone know of a way to add reverse tilt down to the outside mirrors for when the car is put into reverse? BMW has had this feature for years, and I know it is on the new M35/45 too. I am worried about curbing one of wheels when backing up.
|
yeah, i've always wondered why this option isn't available for our "luxury" coupes. i wouldn't think there would be a way to add it to our cars now. so for now, i just lower the mirrors myself whenever i parallel park.
|
I bet the guys at KP Technologies or maybe even one of the electronics guru's or EE's members would know how to make it work.
Anyone? |
The tilt down side mirror is an option for JDM Nissan Skyline in Japan.
Believe it or not, our Infiniti G35 Coupes do not have about 80% of the options that the Japanese models have. There was some talk about inporting the mirrors over from Japan for this functionality. It would be a perfect fit. However, I am not sure if anyone actually did it. |
Anyone thought about asking Yoshi over at www.j-garage.com He supposedly has all the stuff for the Skylines. I agree the coupes should have this feature, not sure if the sedans do. My friend has a 325Ci and it is a very nice feature. Besides I've freakin curbed BOTH of my front wheels while parking. That's also partly why I'm not gettin 20'' Giovanni chrome spinners!! LOL
|
interesting mod
|
I just sent an email to Yoshi-san at J's Garage. I'll let you know if I hear from him. Hopefully, he can help us! :D
|
i would totally be interested if it was an easy, fair priced mod. please let us now if it's going to be possible and how much.
|
i doubt anything from over there is going to be fair priced.
|
what are those? never heard of them, at least not by that name...
|
Basically when you put your car in reverse, your side mirrors tilt down so that you can see the curb and anything else low to the ground behind you when you're backing out. Its a pretty helpful feature, and I think it was discussed before on the forum.

was at downtown today, and man i wish this car has this feature, got used to the bmw, it does help alot, but today i had to manually tile it done.... what a ...
|
actually this is one small thing that matters to me, for a 30k car, the G shouldve had this feature. I live in SF and all I do everyday is parallel park, and I used to tilt down myself coz I got my new volks on.

Joshi @ J's Garage
I got an email from Joshi today, but he thought I was talking about the auto fold in of the mirrors that is supposedly on all JDM vehicles because the parking places are so small. They are so small that the driver lets everyone out so that everyone does not have to squeeze out. Anyway, I sent an email back to Joshi trying to better explain. Hopefully, he will understand, and I will hear something tomorrow.
|
Yoshi san understands!

Yoshi figured out what I am talking about! :D Hopefully, I hear pricing tomorrow. :p
|
Can't wait to get them on! If they make 'em, add that to the mod list.
|
Definately keep us posted.
I'm guessing this is not a mirror replacement, but a control module addition of some sort. Hopefully there won't be any compatibility issues with our US models. |
it will have to be a mirror replacement, and wiring change.
Our mirrors don't have any feedback to let a 'brain' know where the mirror is at. Also, because of the power mirror switching system of the coupe you will have to car some wires to be able to reliably control the mirror. |
very interesting, cant wait for the pricing
|
Did you guys see those pix? looks like it's some sort of 2-way alarm system with feedback remote as well as mirror controls. Cool - but looks expen$ive!!

You're right about the complete system. Yoshi san calls it the "parking support system", and it includes "basic car alarm, door mirror automatic descent, and door mirror automatic fold-in." All three are shown in the pic below.
He did not provide pricing yet, but you're probably right...it'll be expensive. He did kind of lead on that since it's an option on the JDM version, it should be a pretty straight forward add-on since it will come with all of the necessary parts. |
Not to mention they will be angled for RHD. That may be youre biggest issue.
|
how hard would it be to go ahead and add the light on the underside which lights up when you press unlock on the keyfob?
|
I Got The Pricing!!!!!!

Here's the direct quote from Yoshi san's email: "the
standard kit includes the basic car alarm, door mirror angle adjustment, and fold-in. And the price is 299.25USD + shipping cost (around 40USD) + 5% of commission." That makes the kit cost $354.21 depending on how much the shipping varies. Not bad for an alarm, reverse tilt, & fold-in!!!:D I also asked about the mirror remote entry lights and Skyline key with built-in remote, and he is checking on those as well. |
if we can get the keyfob with the buttons for a good price, that would be great!!! what's the deal with the "basic alarm"? is it the same as our current alarm? can we get the fold-down mirrors without that whole package with the alarm (if it turns out to be the stock alarm)? however, from your pics, it looks like a two-way remote.
|
My BF TL has this feature. I think it is great! Wish I had it for the G, but I guess I can always do it manually.
|
not as expensive as i thought it would be
|
what? they dont' have that in a G35???
my Acura TL has that and i am loving it |
I'm very interested in this one. Please keep us posted on the keyfob!
Thanks |
Group buy?

Thats cool, when i knocked the mirror off my g20 i paid 180 to get it painted and replaced......Very cool mod though, saying youhave 350 lying around or you have a real reason to replace the mirrors....
|
if it turns out to be only under $400 for the mod, which includes the fold-down mirrors, automatic fold-in feature, and stock alarm, it would be a great mod. and once we find out the details of the alarm, it may turn out to be a must-have mod if it turns out to be a 2 way remote alarm system.
so, let's get on the ball and find out the details!!!! :) |
I am working on it. There's just a long turn around time because Yoshi san is in Japan. :( Believe me I want this mod too! :D
I'll ask about the two way alarm, but basically, you get all three. It looks like the alarm is two-way. Even if it's not, I'd still pay $350 for the tilt donw mirrors because it would cost more than that to repair one curbed wheel! Think of it as preventive maintenance. :p |
How involved would be the install?

i just found these pics on the nissan japan site. unfortunately, it looks like the remote will be in japanese. hopefully we can change it to english. if there are any japanese members here, please translate this webpage for us:

i'm in, please keep me posted!
|
You will not be able to 'change' that remote since the LCD screen is not dot-matrix... those icons/text are fixed LCD graphics, on or off thats it.
Bummer. Now that key fob on the other hand - WANT IT, NEED IT! please keep that alive! Peet |
I"m down
I want that mod.....add me to the list :)

remote entry lights are 215.25USD + shipping (~$40) + 5% commission.
Yoshi san said that the built-in remote key is "difficult to arrange ... at present". For the tilt down mirrors, he is confirming if it's RH only or both mirrors tilt down. If it ends up being RH only, I'll ask about retrofitting the kit to LH mirror as well. Here's how you pay: 1. Please let me know your shipping address and phone number. 2. Please send your ID card or Drivers license card via FAX The FAX number is "(your country code) + 81 53 4721795". 3. Please let us have your payment by credit card (VISA or Master). Because we will send the payment address of credit card via e-mail, you will be able to find the payment form. 4. When we receive the parts, we will inform the shipping cost as soon as possible. *NOTE : DO NOT SEND YOUR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION VIA E-MAIL, because it might be not safe! And we DO NOT need to hear your credit card number. |
And the winner of the guinea pig "go for it" award goes to........
1. ? :D |
If I can get a better idea of the parts the kit includes and some basic schematics of the system, I'll be the guinea pig, and this will be my first mod on my G.
I am still waiting to hear back from Yoshi to see if he can send any installation papers or repair manual schematics and see if it's the RH mirror only. If it's the RH mirror only, I am trying to find out if I can buy the extra part(s) needed to retrofit it on the LH side as well. If I can just get him to tell me what parts are in the kit and send me a schematic, it would make this so much easier. |
in other luxury cars that i've driven, i remember that both mirrors would turn downward when the car is put into reverse.
|
I agree with Z2G, when I drove the Acura TL, I thought both mirrors tilted down when the car was shifted into reverse.
|
My '04 X-5 only had the passenger side tilt. I was happy with just that. I'll take tilt down of either mirror and would love the fold in mirror too as I tend to park on city parking along side the road. (just another thing I got used to in the X-5)
Also...you could control whenever it tilted down by having your setter off the left mirror control (if that makes sense). I wonder how this control will work... |

In my 2002 bmw 330ci.....ONLY the PASSENGER side mirror tilts down..there is no need for the driver side to do so..and it doesn't..most of the street parking is passenger side...unless u are on a one way street, then u would have to deal with the driver side, in such a case, just look outside the window and down...and a perfect view of the curb with your own two eyes is all you need...hehehehe :D |
Wow, definitely count me in for this mod. But a couple questions:
1. Never had an alarm before until I got a G. What's the big deal with a 2-way remote alarm system? 2. G35UKY was going to check to see if the kit from Japan was RH only. Isn't that what we want? To have the RH tilt down, as the LH wouldn't really matter?? Or am I getting the acronym RH completely wrong?? |
On a RH drive vehicle the LEFT mirror would tilt (they drive on the other side of the road). A two way alarm communicates between the remote and the car alarm to give you audible and visual confirmation of arming, status, and any sensor trips. They typically use LCD screens which are somewhat delicate!
|
RH/LH tilt
Here what Yoshi said: "We checked about the parking support system, and Nissan said that both of the mirror down when it reveres. Because the parking support system is harness and short parts for the mirror, I have also heard that it does not come with the mirrors. So, I think that you do not need to paint the mirror (because you will use stock mirrors)." :)
What this means is that both the RH (passenger side) and LH (driver's side) mirrors tilt down, and this kit comes with the parts and wiring to be added to your existing mirrors, which means no painting of new mirror housings. :D Check back about 10 replies up to see how to order from Yoshi san at J's Garage for $314.22 + shipping, and the shipping should be around $40 according to Yoshi san. |
