I know allmost nothing about HID...help me

I did a quick search and found info about color and light value, I need more info please.

1- I am a new owner of a used 2004 g35 coupe, what is the average life of HID? longer than hallogen?

2-is it true that price range around 200/ 300 us$ for a set?

3-Do you use your "auto light/ feature from your car?

4- I read in the manual that it's bad to "flash" HID, when you go from high to low beam it's flash the hid?(because both are not light at same time?).

5- What to do/know with HID

6- What NOT to do with HID

I know thats a lot of question....All the info is welcome.

1. The average life of HID vs. halogen is 3-4 times that of halogen.

2. probably more than that. it is not just a bulb, but an entire assembly.

3. yes

4. yes, this is true. You should not flash them. i forgot why that is, but I would imagine that it is. When you go from low to high beam, the HIDs stay on. If the headlights are already on that is. If you are highbeam during the day to signal, then that is supposed to be bad for the HIDs.

5 & 6. don't mess with them yourself. if you want to change the lights to something else, have a pro do it.

It's bad to flash HIDs because the quick on/off is not good for the ballast.

HID bulbs are always lit at the same intensity. It's not like halogen when you increase the current to make the bulb brighter. High beam with HIDs usually involve a moveable shield to change the light pattern. But the bulb is lit entirely the same, it's not affected by the physical movement of the shield.

check out hidforum.com for info.
