Replica Kits Buyer Beware
Replica Kits Buyer Beware
I recently bought the Yakuza Syn KS Replica rear bumper to replace my mangled OEM bumper. Few issues I came across that I want those considering a replica kit to know before taking the plunge. I know it's a roll of the dice and I guess I got a shi*ty roll, because my bumper has had a lot of problems.
1. Fitment: Not a huge issue, the fitment was almost perfect, minor adjustments were made with that.
2 Quality: Huge issue. The fiberglass is extremely thin, any hit I take will prove fatal for my bumper (at least it's the rear bumper so somebody rear-ending me should be worried). The body shop I went to had 10+ hours of work to get it to look perfect, which I wasn't expecting. Cracks and imperfections proved to cause a lot of trouble for the body shop and in turn will cost me a lot of money. (I could have saved money by buying the real Kenstyle bumper.)
Just a heads up.

FYI the oem rear bumper cover is flimsy as hell. Some lady tapped me and it put a huge dent in it. The bumper cover is there just to look pretty, it's not going to cushion any hit you take. Sucks to hear about the cracks though. Looking at the pics of the replica, it didn't look too thin.

Hate to break it to you but all fiberglass kit are thin, but not wafer thin just like you describe. If you have to get an additional 10+ hour to make it look perfect due to the cracks and imperfection, I think you should return it instead and buy another similar kit from different manufacturer. Not all replica kits are bad. Some replica kits are even better quality than the authentic kits. It just a matter of preference and expectations. Some people might think that the quality is good, but other might not think so. That is just my opinion.

Mabey he will chime in later.
well it seems that most ppl who bought the KS replica, like jdbinspired, coupin, had very good experience with em, they both said fitment was close to perfect... coupin got his kit from 350forums and jdbinspired got it from a distributor in hawaii, not sure if he gets it from the same source as 350forums. But both had no problems...
as for the ings+1 replica, fitment was decent, had a lot of work that was needed, few gaps on the front lip by the bottom factory grills, few gaps on the sideskirts where the door closes, and on the rear gaps where the ings bumper wraps around on either side... body shop needed a lot of work to get things right.
So im not sure to say if its a 50/50 chance with these replicas or that its just the ings+1 that pretty much has problems... very hard to tell. Nismocoupe also bought the FG ings+1 replica from 350forums and from the pics of his test fitment seemed to line up perfectly, not the case for me though... so i guess its a hit or miss kinda deal...

just stay away from ***gles. it's definitely not worth it at all. replica's usually turn out with waves, and as much bodywork/time has been put into it, it could still look s.hitty. plus, gaps suck. all, we're not driving a kia.
If it had cracks in the bumper that is more likely a shipping issue than an issue with how our bumper was made. It is _____ GLASS <--- that is a big determinate in this outcome. Thanksfully it is easy to fix. If they charged 10 hours, they might have taken you for a ride. I am sorry for your troubles but honestly no one else has had that much issue withour KS kit and it is wildly successful on this forum because of it's fitment
Yeah... I thought mines was pretty good... the kit was really thick... no complaints there... but as for blemishes and imperfections... there was a lot... but nothing that you can fix... so I thought it was money well spent...
