GOT HIT!!! Need help from Those Familiar with Insurance and/or Body Work!!! ASAP

Hey guys....

Need a quick hand in making a decision....my car got nailed in a hit and run....i need a new driver side fender, nothing else...

I had my body shop look at it and they are quoting me at around 550.00, plus around 50 for the clear bra, so around 600 out of pocket...

Does that sound right? price wise?

my deductable is 500.00 and i got some other clown giving me an estimate at 1000.00 since he thinks he will have to blend the paint....the car is an 05 and taken car of maticulously...OB is the color

here is m dilemma:

1. should i fork out the 600 and get on with my life

or

2. get the 1000 estimate and report submit it to the insurance company and walk away with the rest as reimbursement for lost time, rental, gas and the PITA factor

Here is my concern:

It was a hit and run, will my insurance rates go up? i tried to call progressive and they wont give me an answer until i get a claim started...

does anyone have experience with this?

PLEASE HELP!!!!

I wouldn't claim it honestly if its around that amount, having a clean record can save you a LOT in the long run. I get 20% off by having no claims (Allstate). As far as hit and run, I don't think it matters because you will have to file a police report, etc.

just my .02

Thanks Erikill for the quick reply...

I should have mentioned that i did file a police report already to play it safe, but never notified the insurance company because i was afraid of reducing the re-sale value of my car and my rates going up....

does $550 sound right for a quarter panel?

I say you get some INGs+1 fenders.

Well i got involved in a hit and run not too long ago. WHen i talked to the insurance company i asked if my insurance rate will go up at all. they said it would not go up, but they will probably find some way to take money from you. Anyways your damage isn't as much as mine, mine totaled to be $6000 ( well the auto shop i worked at was a bit higher then normal ) but i only payed $1000 detuctible.

It all comes down to if the paint will match without a blend. But then again the car is black. Knowing that I would just go with just the fender without a blend.

I would go with the ING+1 Fenders...

If it's a hit and run, then you'd probably claim the comprehensive part of your insurance... meaning No Fault. It "shouldn't" (in theory) raise your rates since it wasn't your fault.

I'm sure somewhere down the road, they'll try to screw you in any way possible...

As far as blending... it's OB... I don't think blending black should have any issues at all. I'd definitely say just go with painting the fenders...
