headlight question

Maybe this has already been asked and answered (I'm just not feeling the search engine on vbulletin)..but..

Will the headlight housings on the '06 fit an '03. I want projectors on my car and don't feel like hacking my stock housings.

I keep hearing that the 06 light housings will fit the older model G35 coupes. But I dont think the connections will be straight forward, meaning you may have to pull some shananigans to hook it up to work properly.

Will the dealer take the headlights back, if they don't fit?

For some reason, I'm quite comfortable with pulling electrical shenanigans, but not that comfortable with mechanical/fitment shenanigans

agreed. wiring is wiring...i have the schematics for my car, I can get the ones for the '06

and a projector retrofit probably isn't much cheaper than $1500.

so I'll ask again...does anyone know for sure that the housings are the same...I can't tell just from pictures.

My retro in the end will cost around $400. However, you have to ask yourself how much is your time worth? I have invested 30+ hrs on this project so far.

You'll have to be patient, the 06s just came out, and I don't think the new owners are pulling their lights out to test 03-05 ones on them.

The first time I did the retrofit, it was about $150 in cost. I'd say that's a bit cheaper than $1500.

Where are you getting the E46 projectors for $150? Last time I asked, they were around $1200, becuase they said you had to get the housing to get the projector unit. Are you getting them separately?

I don't post much, but I do read a lot lol... One of my friends recently got into a fender bender and his headlights got messed up. He has an '04 and I ordered the '06 lights for him. I'll keep you guys posted on how it goes. The housing is the same. It's just the wiring that may be different. If it is, I'll take pictures and post them. I'll probably post again sometime Friday. If anybody has already done this, feel free to chime in. Oh yea by the way just thought I'd let you guys know the '06 lights are cheaper, due to the fact that they DON'T include the ballast and bulbs. The older lights come with the bulbs, ballast and housing. I work at a shop, so my cost was about $325 per light.

Okay guys, the lights are in!! The wiring is the same, and the housing is the same. All you have to do is plug it right in! The only problem I encountered was the bulb. If you're using your old HID bulb, it has a nipple sticking out that is different from the new bulbs. Now you can either pay an arm and a leg for new bulbs, or you can just cut the nipple off, and the bulb will fit right in. As soon as the car is out of the shop, I'll post pics of the lights. He just ordered new rims, Axis Mods 20x10.5 in the rear and 20x9.5 in the front, with the full tein suspension. So when that's ready I'll post pics.
