Clear Bra Nightmare - Pics Inside
Clear Bra Nightmare - Pics Inside
I found a LLumar Clear Bra installer near my house (actually the only clear bra dealer in Oklahoma that I could find) and he quoted me a fantastic price of $315 for the bumper, hood, fender, and mirrors.
He sounded like a really nice guy and I saw the work he did on his truck and it looked good. Four hours later, i showed up at the shop and was absolutely horrified to see the most heinous fitment/application ever! The bumper was in 4 separate pieces and there was a huge 1/2 inch gap right down the center of the bumper! There were huge gaps all around and the lines around the side running lights weren't even parallel!
The installer had gone home for the day and I told the general manager that I refuse to pay for this work. They let me go home without paying so I don't know what to do tomorrow when I come back. What do you think I'm entitled to? Can I ask that the bra be removed and not pay a dime? I'm OK with the hood/fender/mirror, except for a black smudge on the underside of one of the edges (see pics). Granted that the smudge can be removed, do you think it would be reasonable to keep that film on and go w/ a different brand (3M) for the bumper. I don't think it would be noticeable since they are on 2 different panels.
I'm so irritated right now!
I just spent $40K on this car and this is the piece of crap he thinks I'll be happy with? Thanks for letting me vent. Enjoy the pics!
******************* UPDATE ********************
I talked to my installer today and he was very appropriate and he knew I was not happy. He admitted that he did not expect Llumar to send their pattern in two pieces. His distributor started using another pattern cutter recently and he was not happy either. In the end, he understood my unhappiness with the product and will not charge me a penny! He told me I could take it off myself w/ blowdryer or I can bring it into the shop and he can take it off. I think I'll just leave it on until I can find a clear bra dealer in Dallas to my liking. In the end, this guy really was a stand up guy. It killed me that he spent all this time on my car and talking to me (this has been a 2 month ordeal trying to get the '06 pattern). I can definitely recommend him for tint work... and I will, because he's a guy who stands behind his work. Thanks again for all the support guys, and feel free to let me know of any installers in Dallas that I should check into.

Oh, I forgot to mention...
Can anyone recommend a reputable clear bra installer in the Oklahoma City, Dallas, or Tulsa areas. I need someone that can wrap the bra to the edges. Thanks!

make them think that you'll pay if the job is done again correctly, but once they remove your bra and clean the residue off, just hop in your car and leave... otherwise i'm sure they'll be careless on the removal if you flat out tell them you're going someplace else...
I went to sewell lexus in Dallas. They did a good job for me. They have put 2 on for me since my bumper got dinged and I had to get a new one put on with a new clear bra. I only got the front bumper though. it looks like your installer did a bad cutting job around the lights. Ive never seen that 1 inch separation though between the 2 halves. At least you dont' have much bubbling.

sorry to see...........that happend to the guy that lives in miami with the black g, who bought it off ebay........i think his username was volkg35.........at HIN it looked jst like that but in black and it was very visible
Wow! I just realized that even the mirrors are made of 2 pieces! That's the simplest piece and it's sliced in two? Then I took another good look at the hood and there's a 1/2 inch on each side showing, but the front edge is flush with the grill. That just reaffirms my decision to remove ALL of the bra and not pay a single dime!
BTW, thanks for the moral support guys. It's nice to have people feelin' for me and my G.

looks like a crappy install. my clear bra doesn't fit perfectly, but it's not nearly this bad, and there are no lines like that. get it redone - after all, it carries warranty from any clear bra installer.
dude, wtf?? LOL it looks like they just slapped it on. That must've taken them like 30 min. I just had a clear bra done on my nismo bumper and the guy went to the very edge of all the lines so you can hardly even tell theres a clear bra unless u look at the edge. I say take it off and go somewhere else.
