kurumaZ bumper is here.

so i picked it up from yuichi, had a small chat and i left the premises to test fit this on my car.

the fit is perfect... really good. i like it very much. the bumper and a new grille was sent for paint... i'll receive them both on tuesday.

i compared the stock bumper (without lip) with the kuruma bumper. the kuruma bumper is a bit heavier than the stock, due to the extra plastic and probably because of the urethane itself. stock bumper is a 'resin' bumper and is really light. the kuruma sits around 1.5 cm taller than the stock bumper. the aggressive styling MAY make the bumper hang much lower, but that is not the case!

i test fit the bumper in a snap.. took me 10 minutes to do. fits GREAT. i think i'll make a carbon fiber airflow plate just for the FMIC. also need to prepare the mesh for install tomorrow.

last but not least... the styrofoam? bumper reinforcement. this thing is not styrofoam. it's friggin' block of wood. i tried to use a steak knife to cut out the protruding center piece, but failed miserably. so i used a hacksaw and went at it for good 30 minutes.

d-day in 2...

It's fairly obvious what part of the foam needs to be cut out correct? I'm going to need to get the body shop to do that I guess.

Why do you need to cut out the center foam piece?

b/c otherwise it will hang down into the big center opening of the Kuruma bumper. doesn't matter anyways the foam just provides alittle cushioning behind the stock bumper in that spot, won't have any effect if you remove it.

So you won't have as much a scraping issue w/ the kuruma vs. the oem w/ lip?

probably about the same amount of scraping either way, Kuruma might be a TINY bit lower

i was too anxious to test fit the bumper... i grabbed whatever i could find from the kitchen. besides, i honestly thought it was styrofoam! (just like my friend's acura cl's reinforcement)

i went with stock grill but painting it all black. always loved the classic look... wanted to cop it just how the VIP benzos would.

hell.. i still scrape with stock bumper without the oem lip. most probably, i will have scraping issues, but not as much as owners with GReddy bumper with 19" wheels/tires on stock springs. this bumper is one of the better ones out there, especially for those with scraping issues.

i haven't test fit the bumper on with the foam yet, so i cannot confirm. to secure the bottom, you have to drill the lower skirt of the bumper to accomodate the plastic cover. bumper does not come with the bottom skirt pre-drilled.

ok... so the body shop keeps dragging the finished date... owner keeps saying tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow.. etc. so i don't think i'll have it back until early next week. :T
