How did your body shop do the color matching?
Mix the correct color first then clear coat?
Or, paint the base QX1 color and add a few coats of clear coat until it matches?

Please help, my body shop has a problem of getting it to match...

it will b a hard color to match. i have IP and i painted my bumper twice and it still off. the only thing to do is blend into the panel next to it in order for it to look good. i actually changed my base coat to a different color b/c the org base coat was to white.

 

I got messed up once, and due to the rock chips on my front bumper and cracked on sides, the original body shop wants me to pay another 800 for the repaint. Cuz they insists that after adding a few coats of perl clear coat, the color would match. I don't know what I should do...
Planning to get my kit repainted at another shop, maybe Autonetwork in San Gabriel...

So I would like to make sure whether painting more coats of clear coat can help...

 

Could someone tell me the pearl is from a pearl paint or the clear coat?

 

The pearl is it's own coat, as is the clear and the base color. Good news is that more clear can be added for protection without really changing the color or pearl content.

The hard color-matching part, as indicated by my bodyshop, was getting the base coat correct. Having the paint code is a good start, but the color changes slightly with each and every coat, so it's trial and error until they match the Ivory. Seems like my bodyshop used 6 coats of Ivory, but it's not perfect. I'll be having the front bumper refinished eventually and I hope they can match it a little better.

 

Yeah I have had the same experience with this...

My Nismo replica has been repainted 3 (!) times.....All three have not been very good....although this last time was the best yet.....

Someone mentioned blending into the next panel....I think thats the way to go for our cars....
Someone bashed into my fender one time...and sent me to Garvey Autobody in El Monte....they made my fender look like it was factory IP...it must have been due to the blending......

 

well kinda off topic but it seems like it's impossible to match the color by paying same price as other people do.
i repainted twice and it's still off.
i heard that you are not allowed to repaint more than 3 times on same part because of how the color wont stick to the bumper(?)

 

Matching it should really be your bodyshop's responsibility. Most should do test panels (a 6X10 sheet that had 10 different sqaures/tries is what I was shown) before actually shooting the part.

The fiberglass also presents a color-match issue, just like the urethane bumpers. I had a fender repaired/repainted at the same time and I simply cannot see a difference in color. It's only my fiberglass front bumper, grill and rear spoiler that appear slightly off... ...and that's only under flourescent lights. Seems right in the sun.

 

If my bodyshop can't match the color after adding clear coat as they said, can i request for a refund and go to another shop?

If JDM 350GT is right that I can't repaint the kit more than 3 times, then i must change shop.

 

u cant put a lot of paint on. it is a better chance for it to flake or chip and i dont think a body shop will refund u. i work at a paint shop and i couldnt even match mine and i try so much. the only other think i might do is blend it into the fender,but if i do that then i gotta do my hood too.

 

you gotta blend with the panels in order to get some closeness with the pearl. Its by far the hardest color to work with. The amount of clear is not whats gonna seal the deal, its gonna be the blending and expertise of the painter. Be careful of who you take it to.

I got swiped by some prik while my car was parked, driver side front fender and door. Went to body shop and my guy said he's going to spray the whole side so he can get a good blend with the quarter panel. IP difficult color to work with!

 

how much is it to get the fender blended if I have the whole kit including front, sides and rear?
